Sylvia was born on December 24, 1928, in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Dewey Fitzhugh Sr. and Effie McGhee. She was the second oldest of fourteen, Viola Pigram, Virginia Gray, Lena Rice, Vickie Stallworth, George Marion, L.D. Fitzhugh, Odell Fitzhugh, the late Mattie Robinson, the late Clyde Patterson, the late Barbara Marion, the late Verdicue Fitzhugh, the late Dewey Fitzhugh Jr., the late Fred Fitzhugh and the late Arderia (Ardie) Fluellen.

Sylvia moved to Cincinnati from St. Louis, Missouri in 1946. She lived and worked in her friend the late Mary Jackson's restaurant and rooming house on Freeman Avenue in the West End. Sylvia and her family moved to the Laurel Homes in 1955.

In 1960 she to work for Kenner's Toy Factory where she worked for 35 years until retirement. She was very active in the West End Community. Affectionately known as Ms. Sylvia, she gave rent parties and socials to help out building residents and neighbors. She was also one of many kitchen hair stylists that did women's hair with curling irons and straightening combs.

She was a member of St. Josephs Church since 1962. She departed this life May 22, 2021. She was preceded in death by sons Roosevelt and Gregory Nixon. Granddaughters Iris Maria Steed and Laquisha Combs.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Marietta Cromwell, sons Robert Nixon, Tony Nixon-Evans, Augustus (Michelle) Combs and Arlandus (Latonya) Combs. 14 Grandchildren  38 Great Grandchildren 7 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and dear relatives and friends.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on  Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 745 Ezzard Charles Drive, Cincinnati  (45203).   The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
