Omie Staley was born on Sunday, July 7, 1929 in Luverne, Alabama. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 6, 2016. She was born to the union of M. C. and Earlene (nee Long) Lowery. She attended public school in Luverne, Al. Omie professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Sweet Water Baptist Church. On October 5, 1944, Omie married Eugene 'Sam' Staley Jr.. They relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where they started their family. To their union nine sons and one daughter was born. They had 70 offsprings. After moving to Cincinnati they joined the New Prospect Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Collins. Omie was a faithful member for more than 70 years, and sang in the Pastor's Chorus, served in the Willing Workers Club, and as a past president of the Deaconess Board. Omie leaves to cherish and celebrate her life one daughter, Lynette (Lewis) Bunton, six sons; Willie (Vallorie) Staley, Timothy (Renee) Staley, Alvin (Adrianne) Staley, Michael (Linda) Staley, Ricky (Wanda) Staley, and Eugene (Brenda) Staley; 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren: two siblings, Eva (Percy) Hubbard, Olean Dawson; three sisters-in-law: Louise Lowery, Murth Staley, LaDonna Lowery, three brothers-in-law; Percy Hubbard, Moses Staley, and James Staley; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. She became Ma Staley to so many children growing up in Evanston and in New Prospect Baptist Church. Her husband, parents, three sons, and five siblings, preceded her in death. Visitation is from 9:00 am until 10:30 am, on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the New Prospect Baptist Church , 1580 Summit Road, Cincinnati (45237). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.
