Oakie Lee Monroe, 86, a loving, welcoming soul passed away at her home January 25, 2021,   in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Born October 15, 1934, in Disputanta, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Alice Mae Monroe. In 1958, Oakie left Virginia for Cincinnati, OH where she lived with and is survived by her life partner and love Mr. Charles T. Turley.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Floressa Reese, Mattie Young, Lucy Fitzgerald, Mable Noel, Carrie "Odessa" Green and brothers Rommie Monroe, Daniel Monroe, Willie Monroe, and Robert Monroe, Jr.

For thirty-six years, Oakie served the College Hill community as a cook at Llanfair Retirement Home. She took care of many, many children over the years, providing food and care, assisting parents who worked late hours. In addition to being an ever present source of strength and love to her family, Oakie never met a stranger, and was always willing to help others.

She is survived by sisters Geraldine Hunt, Lorraine Reese, and Alice Taylor. Oakie's memory will be honored by her daughter Marilyn Monroe-Helm, loving son-in-law David Helm and her grandchildren Carlos and Sirrea Monroe. Her legacy will be ensured by seven great-grandchildren Alexis, DanAzia, NiJasia, Jalawn, Damon, Jorel, and Carleon Monroe. She also leaves behind her loving extended family given to her by Charles, Aaron, Steve (Tracy), and Sharon (Ray) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and  friends who will  ensure that the wonderful memories of her live on.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on  Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Walker Funeral Home - Mt. Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Avenue , Mt. Healthy  (45231).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Everyone attending must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.

In keeping with the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions masks are required in order to enter  the service and social distancing must be practiced.  Please be prepared to comply for the safety of all.
