IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mittie Ann
Ward
February 28, 1922 – December 18, 2013
Mittie Ann Ward, age 91, passed December 18, 2013. She was born February 28, 1922. 91 years ago, down in Elmore, Alabama, Mittie Ann Judkins, and her twin sister Minerva was born from the union of Daniel and Daisy Judkins. Mittie is the last of eleven siblings, three brothers and eight sisters, all preceded her in death. Growing up in Pink Lilly; a small town near Prattville, she was baptized at Sunny Hill Baptist Church. She was a very bright student, at Sunny Hill Elementary School, and a pretty good basketball player, at North Highland School. She learned to cook from her mother and her older sister Carrie at a young age. In 1943, Mittie left Alabama and came to Cincinnati, where she met and married Henry Ward which lasted 54 years until his death in 1994. Mr. Ward afforded Mittie the opportunity to do the things she wanted to do and help support the great life she lived. She liked nice things, but she put God and family before anything. Mrs. Ward was an Eastern Star and past Vice President of her Federated club of Black Women, where she did great work in the community for years. Mittie was a nurse (LPN) for nearly 30 years, working mostly in nursing homes with the elderly; her patients loved her dearly. She was a wonderful, caring person. She always said 'The Lord looks after babies and old people' and she did too. She was very active raising two sons Alfred and Henry. I think she did a pretty good job. Working as the Charge Nurse at the Ambassador Nursing Home; she had a serious fall, and after a lot of therapy, she finally had to retire from nursing. During that period of time, along came the grandchildren Shane, Shawn, Eric and Derrick. From the union of Henry and Connie Ward, two sets of twin boys. Ms. Ward loved to cook and everyone loved to eat at her house, not many could match her on the stove. Mittie lived a great and happy life, but not without several tragedies that she lived through. She loved her church, The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and was one of the original members of the Inspirational Choir in the early 1940's. The Rev. J. M. Stevens was the pastor. Mittie loved to travel, she went wherever there was family; Alabama, Gary, California, and Detroit. All she had to say was, I want to go, and we were gone. She was very close, and looked after her twin sister Minerva until her passing, February 2000. Ms. Mittie Ward leaves two sons; four grandsons, four great-grandchildren, Haven, Harley, Derrick Jr., and Ethan Ward; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
