Miss Minnie was born on August 15, 1915, in Conyers, Georgia and was raised by her father, Augustus and his wife Sally McMullen. In addition to the above, Miss Minnie raised and cared for many foster children, relatives and any other child that she thought may have needed her love, caring and affection. Miss Minnie accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of the Peace Baptist Church located in Avondale. Miss Minnie enjoyed cooking and was very good at it. She will be fondly remembered especially for her fried chicken, yeast rolls, sweet potato pies, her cakes and those Sunday dinners after church. She also enjoyed playing cards especially Bid Whist where she frequently ran a "Boston" on her opponents. Among Miss Minnie's other favorite pass times were; watching baseball on television, especially the Cincinnati Reds; listening to Gospel music, especially Mahalia Jackson; reading; doing crossword puzzles and keeping up with political news. In her younger days, Miss Minnie was very active in politics and allowed her home to be used as the neighborhood polling place for nearly fifty years. Miss Minnie leaves to cherish her memories, five children: John Jr. (Little Johnnie)(Jean); Minerva; Jimmie (Whitley); Larry (Juliet); and Bernard (Kenney): six grandchildren: Anita(Tootsie); Barbette(Muffie); Michelle( Candy); Bruce; Cory; and Demetrius: one sister: Gussie Christian; a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
