IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Minnie Lee
(Bentley) Sutton
March 4, 1923 – June 2, 2016
Minnie Lee (Bentley) Sutton was born March 4, 1923, in Quitman, Georgia to the late George and Rosa Lee (Holmes) Bentley. Minnie fell asleep in death with her family by her side on June 2, 2016. She was one of eleven children born to George and Rosa, including Clara, Mattie Lee, George, James, Phoenis, Willie Mae, Artis, Blanche, Juanita and Mable. Minnie was preceded in death by her late husband James Sutton Sr., son Willie Frank Manning, sisters Mattie Lee Finney, Willie Mae Cherry, Clara Sanders, and brothers, Artis, George and James Bentley, and close friend Cheryl Weil. After meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, Minnie and James Sutton Sr., married on June 18,1945, in Hutchison, Kansas. After relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio, Minnie worked for Stearns & Foster Mattress Company for thirty-three years as a kitchen manager. After retiring from Stearns & Foster in 1985 she continued to work as a domestic provider until 2014. Affectionately known as Ma' Minnie by family and friends alike, she never met a stranger. Minnie is remembered for her candid story telling and irresistible sense of humor. She was known for her quick-witted and practical sayings; just when you thought you'd heard them all - she had another. In her younger days, she enjoyed many activities including Shopping, Bowling, Dancing, and Gardening. More recently she enjoyed listening to her favorite Blues and Soul records, watching Cincinnati Reds baseball, and spending time with her grandchildren. Minnie took great pride in her grandchildren, giving each one a nickname and referring to them as her 'Pride & Joy'. Minnie was also known for extending herself to help everyone she could, often times putting the needs of others before herself. She reasoned that if she could help she would. Minnie's generous and hospitable personality will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory: Four Loving Sisters, Blanche Dixon (Boston, MA) Phoenis Blankumsee, Juanita Bentley, Mable Hill, (All of Valdosta Ga.)Three Loving children Betty Smith, James (Angela) Sutton Jr., & Leonard Sutton.Ten Loving Grand Children- Lynn Stewart, Carla Griffin, Milana Sutton, Kimberly Sutton, Tania Smith, James Sutton III, Kambria (Jonathan) Biggom, Jivarey Sutton, Jessica (Walter) Hamm, & Monique Sutton.
