IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Milton Woody,
Sr.
March 29, 1950 – July 15, 2023
Milton Thomas Woody Sr. March 29, 1950 - July 15, 2023
Milton Thomas Woody, Sr aka "Aboo Boo Woody Ba" was born on March 29, 1950, and raised in Leslie, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Thelma Mitchell and Alfonzo Woody, Sr. On July 15, 2023, our beloved Milton Thomas Woody, Sr. passed in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Brookside Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Thelma (Cookie) Dillard, Ronald Woody, Sandra Faye (Sandy), Rev. Alfonzo Woody, Jr. He leaves behind his wife, Denise Woody, and son, Milton Woody, Jr. Raised in Leslie, he was a member of The Rome Baptist Church. Milton was educated at Crichton Elementary Public School. He attended Greenbrier West High School, where he was captain of the football team. During his high school years, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York, and he completed his education at Boys High School, where he sang in the school choir and played on their football team. At a very young age, Milton was a member of Cornerstone Baptist in Brooklyn, New York, and joined the choir where he sometimes sang with his mother and the renowned singer and songwriter, Stephanie Mills. One of his favorite songs are "How Great Thou Art" and "Milky White Way"- a family favorite they all sang when everyone gathered on special occasions.
Later in life, after a short stay in West Virginia, he returned to Brooklyn and became a member and singer of the Senior Choir at First Calvary Baptist Church led by Rev. Earl Jones, Sr., Pastor. Milton loved singing, especially gospel songs. The second Milton spoke or sang, his voice was mellifluous. He had a beautiful, sweet, smooth, and musical sound. He joined a R&B group in the 1970s. They sang and traveled to England where they recorded an album. After traveling abroad, he returned to the States and sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In the early 1980s, his late brother-in-law, John Conway, introduced him to his best friend and the love of his life, Denise Miley. On February 12, 2006, at Highland First Church of God in Rainelle, West Virginia, the two, who were the life of the party, got married and ended up remaining together for a total of 41 years. Their union produced their son, Milton Thomas Woody, Jr.. Milton, Sr. loved fatherhood, and he was a very proud father. Milton was a hard-working man. He got a job with UPS, where he worked for several years until he started working with a contractor as a tradesman and mastered drywall taping and repair. Milton then became an independent contractor for over 25 years until he retired.
"Aboo Boo Woody Ba" as he was called, affectionately by his family and friends, was a caring, loving, protective, expressive family man. His greatest pleasure in life was gathering his family together with friends to play card games, dancing, and singing, with a perfect blend of E&J Brandy and Pepsi. He also loved a cup of coffee and a sweet treat, rather it was Reese's Peanut Butter cups, Milky Way, or a Musketeer bar. Milton preferred eating at home rather than going out to a restaurant. He loved his wife's homemade meals that went well with watching a good basketball game. His favorite players were Michael Jordon and LeBron James. He also loved walking the streets of Bed-Stuy playing his Boom Box for everyone to enjoy the sounds of Frankie Beverley & Maze, Earth, Wind and Fire, Busta Rhymes, and so many more. Today, we pay tribute to a wonderful man with a sultry voice who loved music, his family, and a good blunt. He cherished all his aunts and uncles. He loved those special moments he spent with his cousins Coco, Angie, Charlotte, The Smith Family, Gabriel, Beverly, Curtis, and Cowana. He leaves a legacy that will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who shared his life. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile, laughter, wonderful voice, and going from 0 to 100. He will be greatly missed and remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Milton's duties on earth have been completed. He leaves to cherish his kind spirit, warm heart, and precious memories, his wife, Denise Miley Woody; his son, Milton Thomas Woody Jr.; his nephews: Ronald Woody, Travis Woody, Aaron Woody, Lamont Dillard; his nieces: Tracy Dillard, Shakeisha Woody Wells, Lisa Woody-Williams, Debbie Olusa, Kim Woody, Tara Gabourel, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who became family like Tom Ravndll, Gwen & James Murray.
