Mildred Delores
Winkfield
December 9, 1936 – May 5, 2015
Mildred Delores Coleman was born December 9, 1936, to Frank and Lala Coleman, in Dudley, Georgia. She was the oldest of five children: Mildred, Geraldine, Robert, Panzy and Doristine. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Her father was a farmer and a hard working man. She knew early that, that was not the life for her. Her father allowed her to travel up north to Toledo, Ohio to live with his sister, Pennsylvania, known to family as Aunt Daught. Aunt Daught owned a restaurant, The Southern Kitchen. While in Toledo, Mildred and her cousins Betty Ann and Betty Jean were inseparable. Mildred would tell on the 2 Betty's would for being fast, so they would drop her off so they could go hang out. Mildred Attended Riverside School of Nursing and after graduation she started working at Mercy Hospital. She also helped Aunt Daught at the restaurant. One day while catching the bus to her second job, she caught the eye of a young George Winkfield. She got off, he got off with her. He started working at the restaurant with her. They dated for three years and became husband and wife on June 15, 1968. They moved to Cincinnati and Mildred began working for Jewish Hospital. She worked for Jewish Hospital for 25 years. Once in Cincinnati Mildred and George knew they needed a church home so they joined Revelation Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Griffin. Mildred was very active in her faith and served Revelation faithfully until her health began to fail in 2011. She was a Deaconess, a member of Circle #4 in the Ministry Department, and traveled to several Baptist Conventions. Mildred was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May, 2015 at 4 pm. She was surrounded by her longtime friends, Mattie Patton, Joyce Cooper, and Todd Ingram, and her grandson Dominique Tucker. Mildred is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Deacon George Winkfield; her loving son, George Jr.; her loving grandson, Dominque Tucker; 2 sisters: Pansy Stephens (Milledgeville, GA) and Doristine Branham (West Hartford, CT); and very close cousin Betty A. Huston Rest easy Ma, job well done, woman of God. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, 1556 John Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, (45214) with visitation from 9:00 am until 10:00 am.
