Obituary

On January 23, 1994, the world was graced with the presence of Menelik Jahel Menefield, born to his loving mother, Larie "Tafari" Spellmen, and his father, the late great Melvin "Menelik" Menefield, whose spirit he carried with him throughout his journey. Together, Tafari, Menelik, and Ketorah raised him, guiding him with wisdom and care, shaping him into the remarkable man he became.

In 2013, Menelik's determination and resilience led him to earn his GED through the Jefferson County Public School system in Louisville, Kentucky. With a deep curiosity for the human mind he pursued studies in Psychology at Kentucky State University. Upon returning home, he embraced his entrepreneurial spirit, building a career in landscaping, where his hands shaped the earth as beautifully as his soul shaped the lives around him.

Menelik was more than his achievements—he was a force of nature, full of warmth, and ambition. He walked his path with pride and purpose, guided by his deep faith as a Rasta. He lived by the principles of love, peace, and unity, always seeking truth and enlightenment. His devotion to righteousness and his respect for all living things shone through in the way he carried himself, inspiring those around him to live with intention and integrity.

Whether through his work, friendships, or the love he poured into his family, he left an undeniable imprint on the world. His presence brought laughter, his kindness brought comfort, and his perseverance inspired all who knew him.

Although his time with us was far too short, his legacy will endure in the hearts of those he touched.

He is survived by his last living grandparent, Cheryl Horne; his mothers, Tafari and Ketorah. His beloved children, Mone' and Menelik Jr. His Fiance, Cayla Jeff, with whom he shared a deep and unwavering bond. They will forever carry his strength and love within them.

Menelik was also a cherished brother, deeply connected to his siblings and their children: his sisters Melva (Massiyah), Maleeka (Malee'ah), and Makeeda; his brothers Charles, Trevon (Triston, Rylan), and Gamaliel (Gamaliel Jr.)—who were not only his family but his closest friends. In Addition to a host of family and friends.

Message from the Family: "Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Menelik, but we find comfort in knowing that his love, laughter, and legacy will live on. He was a son, a father, a brother, and a friend who filled our lives with joy and purpose. His faith as a Rasta guided him in life, and his spirit remains ever strong, ever present. Though we grieve, we also celebrate the time we had with him—his kindness, his strength, and the unwavering love he gave so freely. Menelik, you will never be forgotten. You live on in every memory, every lesson, and every heart you touched. Rest peacefully, knowing you were deeply loved."

Jah bless and guide you on your journey, Menelik. Your story does not end here—it lives on in the love you gave, the wisdom you shared, and the roots you planted. Selah.
