IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvina
Henson
June 6, 1940 – June 9, 2016
The Obituary Melvina Henson was born on June 6, 1940 in Crawfordsville, GA from the union of the late Marvin and Mary Dell (Ware) Johnson. At age 7, her family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio. Thereafter, Melvina studied academics throughout the public school system and then graduated from Robert A.Taft High School. Later in life, as she cultivated her spirituality, she became a member of Robbin Street Christian Church where she mentored the youth and many of her nieces under the leadership of her late husband Reverend James Henson. Her final church home was The Body of Christ ministered by Bishop Michael Harris. On February 10, 1968 she married James Henson who preceded her in death. Within this union she mothered Robbie Henson and Tiffany (Walt) Wynn. Likewise, she raised her grandson, Derryck Henson as her son. Her legacy continues with her grandsons, Montez and Elijah Henson, great grandson DeaVonei Henson and great granddaughter Mekhi Henson, and soon to be new arrival, great granddaughter Ase-ire Henson. Melvina was also known as Sis or Bean and was a mother of inspiration to many. Honoring and supporting the relationship of family was very dear to her heart. She held the title as the Family Historian and she will be missed dearly. Similarly, she mastered numerous trades for employment before retiring from Cincinnati Electronics in 1990 and Formica Corporation in 2006. After a 10 year span of being a Lung Cancer survivor, she went home with her closest friend, her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on June 9, 2016. Now in Heaven she is happy and without pain or worry, working for her Lord and wondering "where the people are going to sleep." Melvina was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Jr., Waddie, Lorenzo, Russell Lee Johnson, and Tyrone Heath as well as godchild, Shawn (Dunn) Turney. She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Robbie Henson; daughter, Tiffany (Walt) Wynn; honorary son, Derryck Henson; grandsons, Montez and Elijah Henson; great grandchildren DeaVonei Henson, Mekhi Henson, and Ase-ire Henson; sisters, Lois Johnson, Darlene (Nehemiah) Dunn, "her girls" Verna Johnson and Veronica (Jesse) Jackson; brothers, Reverend Willie Love (Bell) Johnson of Alabama, Reverend Eddie (Claire) Heath of Georgia, Elliott (Sally) Ware, Herschel (Judith) Johnson, Anthony (Linda) Johnson; sister-in-laws Laverne Johnson and Phyllis Henson of Cincinnati; adopted grandsons, Quinn Edwards, Christopher Ellison, Eugene Bryant, DeAndre Barnes, and a host of cousins, nieces ,nephews, and very close friends.
