Melvin Thomas Kidd was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 17, 1941 to the union of Lewis Frances Kidd and Paulyne G. Kidd. He was the 2nd born of eight children. He is preceded in death by his father, one brother, one sister, and a son. Melvin grew up in Woodlawn, Ohio and attended Princeton City Schools. Melvin was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he sang in the Celestial Airs chorus, along with his brother Teto, under the direction of his mother, Paulyne Kidd. He sang with Charles Fold and the Gospel Messengers. He had his own singing group, Mel & The Lapels. They sang all over the city and frequently performed at the Riverside Drive Club. Melvin loved hunting, working on cars, and riding his custom chopper. In 1961, Melvin was united in holy matrimony to Betty Thorpe-Kidd-Strum. He was the father of six boys and one girl. In 1968, Melvin married Bernadette Kidd. He moved to Atlanta where he lived for twenty-five years. Melvin returned to Cincinnati in 2002 where he resided until his passing after a long illness. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother Paulyne Kidd, seven children, Danny (Apra) Kidd of Fallon, Nevada, Melvin Kidd, Aaron Kidd, Benjamin Kidd, and Misha Jouett Kidd of Cincinnati, Ohio, Steven Kidd and Kevin Kidd of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Phyllis (William) Funderburg and Sandra Jordan; three brothers, Ernest 'Teto' Kidd, Philip (Erma) Kidd, Paul (Liz) Kidd; eighteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
