IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mattie L.
Little
January 28, 1940 – August 3, 2025
Mattie L. Little, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love and laughter of family, on August 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, and mentor. Mattie's unwavering faith and gentle spirit touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of service, love, and resilience that will long be cherished.
Born on January 28, 1940, in the hills of Kentucky, Mattie learned early on the values of hard work, dedication, and compassion that would define her life.
Mattie retired from Shriners Hospital after more than 25 years. She was a pillar within her church community, where she served for over 45 years. Mattie held various positions within the church, including Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and President of the Missionary Baptist Church. She was also proud to serve as an Advisor to the current President of the Missionary Baptist Churches in the district at the time of her passing. Mattie's faith was strong and never wavered, even in her later days when the pain was great and her body was tired—her faith held strong.
Mattie was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in April of this year. She looked her specialist in the eye and asked, "So, what's next?" She was that type of fighter—never giving up and facing her problems head-on. There were days when the pain made it difficult to speak, let alone carry out her day, but still, she held strong and never missed an appointment because she said, "This is not my plan or even the doctor's; this is God's will, and I will be obedient." She knew her days were numbered, as she was the longest-living person within her known bloodline. She began making preparations for after she passed so that her family would not be further stressed or burdened during their time of grief. She ensured that the only thing left to do was to carry out her wishes.
Mattie was the type of mother who loved her children and grandchildren not only through their accomplishments but also through their pain. She had an ear to listen at any hour and a shoulder to cry on when times were hard. She listened and never passed judgment, offered sound advice, and never turned her back on her loved ones. She was that kind of caring and loving matriarch for her family.
Mattie is survived by her three remaining siblings: Margaret (LC), Olivia (Clarence), and Howard; her three sons: William, Thomas (Delores), and Melvin Jr. (Gina); her two daughters: Teresa and Tonya (Johnny); eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin Sr., ten siblings, and her daughter-in-law Brenda. She was a loving person who will forever be missed and cherished.
