Mary was born to the late Rosa Doyle Allen and Richard B. Showes Sr. on October 20, 1934. She departed this life January 16, 2014 at 6:54 AM. Mary Doyle Pope was the wife of the late John Henry Pope. Mary accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. She later became a member of the Greater Fellowship Baptist Church, Pastor H.M. Smith until his death. She then joined the Corinthian Baptist Church in 1992 where she remained a member until her death. Mary attended Douglas Elementary School in Walnut Hills. Some of her early employment included a laborer at 'Pick-a-Chicken' Market. She later became an employee for the St. Bernard School at Derby and Winton Road in the early 60's. For over forty years she provided loving care to hundreds of children as a child care provider. She was well known and loved for her generosity and kind acts in her community, city, and church. In her church home she was lovingly known as the 'Hat Lady'. Mary was also a devoted member of the Federated Women's Club. Mary is survived by two children, Sandra Doyle Smith and Yul McBerry (Cynthia), and stepson Jason Pope (Jimmetta). She also leaves six siblings: Ida Jean Butts (Julius), Frances Worthen (late Wilbur), Gloria Ralls (James), Amos Allen (Heather), Diane Irvin, Gigi Hall (Ronnie). She also leaves one stepbrother, Richard Showes. Mary has ten grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren, one great- great granddaughter, and over 100 nieces and nephews. She touched many lives in a special way. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, January 24th, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Corinthian Baptist Church, 772 Whittier Street , Cincinnati, Ohio (45229). Visitation 9:00 a.m until time of service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
