Mary Sharpley was born September 26, 1948 in Eccles, West Virginia and moved to Cleveland with her family at age five. Mary was the second oldest of eight children of Lenzie and Roberta Borders. Mary accepted Jesus through baptism at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in 1966. She graduated from John Hay High School and attended Cuyahoga Community College. While working at Cleveland Clinic she met and married Carl Sharpley with whom Mary celebrated 27 years of marriage. Family was the most important part of Mary's life. She was devoted to her husband, her daughter, her son Tony (deceased) and her three grandchildren. Mary was a foster parent for many years providing a home and love for many children, which included the adoption of Tony. In addition, she was a school guard for Cleveland Heights School District. Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Carl; daughter, Terri Mehring (Mr. Dennis); grandchildren, autumn, Andrew and Austin; mother, Roberta Borders; sisters, Sheila Ashby, Carolyn Crawford, Linda Hickman and Lesa Lathan; brothers, Lenzie, Bobby, and Michael Borders, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Service: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 11:30 a.m. at Heights Christian Church, 17300 van Aken Boulevard, Beachwood, Ohio with Pastor Gary Walling officiating.
