Obituary

Mary Ethel Coulter was born September 27, 1924 in Livingston, Alabama to the late Phyllis Channy Filmore and Edd Wiliams. At a young age her mother moved to Montgomery, Alabama where Mary was raised lovingly by her mother and the late James 'Daddy' Filmore. Mary had one brother, Herbert Williams Sr. and one sister, Jesse McBeth, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary lived briefly in Chicago before moving with her sister to Cincinnati, Ohio. She was married to her devoted husband, the late Vernon Coulter Sr. She was truly an 'original' person. Her life was one of family and friends. Until the day she passed into glory, she was giving advice and telling witty stories. Her friends ranged from the young to the old. Everyone enjoyed spending time with Jam, as she was affectionately called. Jam loved talking on the telephone and knew everything that was going on everywhere. She was a proud member of the Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. She was especially proud that her son-in-law, Dr. John B. Ivey, was also her pastor. She loved the old songs and hymns. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gwendolyn O'Banion (Raymond), Deborah Ivey (John), Vernon Coulter Sr. (Selena), Theodore Coulter Sr. (Theawanna), Valerie Coulter, Clifford Coulter, Tracie Randolph and Lisa K. Bennett (Chester), all of Cincinnati Ohio; Donald Coulter Sr. (Lavaeda) of Bel Air, Maryland and Bridget McReynolds of Los Angeles, California; and two special nieces, Eleanor Childers (George) and Dolores Hutcherson. She also leaves generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a large host of friends, nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Veranda Gardens staff, Arlene Lawrence and the Walker Funeral Home for their services. Please share online condolences with the Coulter family at www.HerbWalker.com Walker Cincinnati is serving the family.
