Mary "Libby" Elizabeth Leach Britton was born on December 12,1930 in Maxton, North Carolina. The fourth of four children born to David and Nora Dell Leach, Libby was called home to her heavenly Father on June 1, 2017 at age 86. As a young child, Libby moved with her family to Cincinnati, OH where her parents joined Carmel Presbyterian Church at 9th and Linn streets in the West End and where she grew up witnessing the Word of the Lord. During this time period, Libby developed her life-long love of reading fiction novels. After attending Cincinnati Public Schools, graduating from Withrow High School and 2 years of college, Libby joined United States Army where she passionately served her country and was honorably discharged. Libby was able to live with and share time with her mother, Nora Dell in New York, Long Island for several years after serving in the Army before returning to Cincinnati where she met and married her now deceased husband, Jessie Britton, Jr. Although Libby never had any children, she helped raise many nieces and nephews, whom she loved as If they were her own children. Carmel Presbyterian Church was a priority during Libby's entire life. She was aware of the grace of the Lord at a very young age and genuinely loved serving him as evidenced by her many years of service for the church and the Avondale Community. When you did not see her at Carmel, you saw her at K-MART or SAM's where she was employed. Love of family and church, reading, travelling, viewing movies, and cooking breakfast on Sunday morning at "Carmel" were fond memories for Libby's during her stay at Hyde Park Health Care, where she resided prior to passing. "Aunt Libby" was a very generous person who loved life, who was loved and will be sorely missed. Libby is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Britton Jr, her parents, David and Nora Leach, and her siblings, Anna Dell, Minnie, and David. Her memory and love for the Lord and others will always be celebrated by her nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces, her sister-in-law's Viola Leach and Sondra Britton, the Britton family, and the many lives she touched along the way. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Carmel Presbyterian Church, 3549 Reading Road, Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Vine Street.
