Obituary

Marilyn B. Edwards, born Marilyn Bryant on December 20, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the age of 84. Her life was marked by dedication, community involvement, and a vibrant personality that touched many lives.

Marilyn was raised in Cincinnati and received her education through the Cincinnati Public School System. She proudly graduated from Courter Technical High School, where she developed a strong foundation that would serve her throughout her life.

Marilyn began her journey into the workforce with diligence and pride. She began her career working for the Netherland Hilton Hotel, the Riverfront Stadium, working Reds games, and another job before moving on to build a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service (USPS) working as a mail handler for over 35 years.

Marilyn was a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church. She sang in the inspirational choir and served on the usher board.

Marilyn found joy in various pastimes, including bowling, traveling, and visiting casinos. She was a spirited competitor and enjoyed playing games such as Bid Whist with friends and family. One of her last wishes was to call Beverly and Michael Redding for a game, reflecting her love for friendly competition.

Music played a significant role in Marilyn's life, bringing her comfort and happiness. She cherished songs like Al Green's "For the Good Times" and Sir Charles Jones' "Pour Me a Drink." Her interests also included Westerns such as "Wyatt Earp," mysteries like "Perry Mason," game shows like "Wheel of Fortune," and anything by Steve Harvey. These entertainment choices reflected her diverse tastes and love for storytelling and entertainment.

Marilyn was an active member of the Independent Order of B.P.O.E. of W., belonging to Laura G. Powell Temple #1220 for 40 years. During her tenure, she held several leadership positions, including Daughter Ruler, Vice Daughter Ruler, and Trustee. She also participated in the Southern District Council and the Ohio State Associate, remaining active until her health declined. She was also in a club called Sunday Brunch, where they would have New Year's Eve Parties and cook soul food, a Father's Day picnic, and plan trips to places such as Gatlinburg.

Known for her unforgettable personality, Marilyn was unapologetically authentic. She lived life on her own terms, speaking her mind openly and honestly. Her genuine nature left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, and her legacy is characterized by her honesty, strength, and kindness.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Derrick Bryant (Marlene), Terri L. Swint (Pierre), Robert C. Holloway (Mary), Tracey D. Holloway-Nelson, Kimberly A. Holloway, and Alex C. White (Kimberly); and friend, Larita Green. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Derrick L. Bryant (Marie), Courtney G. Hayes, David L. Hayes, Kesha Sims, Christopher Shepherd, James (Seven) Holloway, Chassidy M. Boner, Alex C. White, Cedric Holloway, Antoine Curry (Jasmine), Robert Eskridge (Nyckole), Brittany Thompson, Kristen Thompson, Te'a Johnson, Kennedy White and Eli White; approximately 50 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She shared close bonds with special cousins: Barbara Ellis, Margie Coleman (Clarence), Dorothea Fitzhugh, Joseph Ballard Smith, IV (Rochelle); extended family from Maysville, Kentucky – Valerie Bennett, Terri Hall, Kirby, and members of the Bryants, the Burtons, and the Pitts families, and dear friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James F. Edwards; a grandson, Antonio Holloway; her parents, Henry Bryant, Sr., and Genolia Smith Bryant; a brother, Henry Bryant, Jr.; and an aunt, Lottie Lee Smith. Among those who held a special place in Marilyn's heart was her dear friend, Lutricia Steagall, AKA "Lu".

As Psalm 21 reminds us of divine strength and joy in salvation, may Marilyn find peace reunited with loved ones gone before her. Though we can no longer prepare meals or share laughter, her spirit lives on in every memory we hold dear.
