IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie
Gowdy
January 19, 1956 – January 20, 2024
Marie Gowdy January 19, 1956 - January 20, 2024
Marie Gowdy came into the world on January 19, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio, born to Inez Morton and William George, Sr. On January 20, 2024, just a day after celebrating her birthday, the Lord called Marie home to be one of his angels.
Raised in Cincinnati, Marie briefly moved away to Cleveland, Ohio, where she pursued her education at Job Corp, earning her GED. Upon her return to Cincinnati, she started a career that included working at several prominent hotels while actively contributing to her community. Along this journey, she found solace in her faith and became a devoted member of Peace Baptist Church.
Whenever you were in Marie's presence, she generously extended a helping hand, driven by her deep love for the community. Known for being everyone's confidante, she offered the best advice and a listening ear to those in need. Her culinary skills were a testament to her passion, and as she prepared meals, she made sure that the entire Avondale neighborhood was fed. She dedicated herself to caring for her community, as she became "Momma Marie" of the block of Rockdale Avenue. Marie was a beloved figure who reciprocated the love she received. Unapologetically authentic, she spoke her truth and never shied away from expressing her feelings. In every way, she exemplified goodness, doing everything to care for others.
In her heart, Marie held an immeasurable love for her three sons, Michael, Tank, and Lamont, they were her entire world. Her bond with her sons reflected the epitome of a mother's love—full of care, protection, and steadfast devotion. Dominos was not just a game to her; it was her favorite pastime she enjoyed challenging anyone to, regardless of their experience. Marie was competitive. If you were around, she would test your abilities.
Despite being unable to attend church, Marie found solace in the support of her church members. They visited her at home, just a stone's throw away from the church, singing and praying for her well-being. Another source of joy for Marie was allowing her daughter to dress her up, reveling in the feeling of confidence that came with looking good and her hair was pretty, even if she couldn't make it outside.
Marie is survived by her loving father, William George, Sr., and beloved mother, Inez Morton. Her memory lives on through her sons, Michael George, Ronald Miller, and Lamont Miller, along with brothers, William George, Jr., Donnie Hummins, Jeffery Hummins, and Anthony Hummins, and sister, Marcia Hummins. She is also survived by cherished friends, Darlene Avery and Traci Montgomery. Marie's daughters, Aneek Haysbert and Kellie George, continue to hold her legacy, as do her grandchildren, Paris George, Marquez George, Braina George, Nicole English, and Kimberly Miller. Among her great-grandchildren are Josiah, Mariah, Milah, Ocean, Jayjay, and Rose. Marie's presence will be sorely missed by all who held her dear in their hearts.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Peace Baptist Church, 652 Rockdale Avenue, Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
In keeping with CDC Covid19 Guidelines, we encourage those who are not fully vaccinated to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
