"Marcus was one of a kind — a man with a big heart, a quick joke, a sharp mind, and a laugh that could brighten any room."Marcus Britten, affectionately known as Marko Dane and The Dane, was born on March 3, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Phyllis Jean Britten-Fears and Leon Godfrey. He was also lovingly raised by his bonus father, George Fears.Marcus’s life was truly a blessing, and his presence brought joy, laughter, and love to all who knew him. From an early age, he was known for his fun-loving, playful, and outgoing spirit. He was highly intelligent and carried a friendly nature that drew people in. Marcus had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and a natural gift for making others laugh. A true comedian at heart, he enjoyed telling jokes, pulling pranks, and creating moments that would leave lasting smiles on the faces of family and friends.Marcus received his education at Shields Elementary School, Jennie D. Porter Middle School, and Robert A. Taft High School.He carried himself with confidence and style, always taking pride in how he looked and how he presented himself to the world.Marcus had a deep love for music and enjoyed listening to artists such as Anita Baker, Sade, Top Authority, Tupac, KRS-One, Scarface, and E-40. He especially enjoyed analyzing song lyrics, reflecting on their meaning, message, and artistry. Music was one of the many ways he connected to the world around him and expressed his appreciation for creativity and truth.In his quiet moments, Marcus found comfort in cooking, watching television, and unwinding with a cold Budweiser and a cigarette. He took great pride in his appearance, always presenting himself with dignity. He was always clean, well-dressed, and often wearing Polo. Marcus’s signature style, confidence, and personality made him unforgettable to those who knew and loved him.Above all, Marcus was a hardworking man who took pride in being a faithful provider for his family. He dedicated many years of service as a Sanitation Worker for the City of Cincinnati. Through his commitment and hard work, he demonstrated perseverance, responsibility, and humility, earning the respect of his colleagues and community."A true original whose laughter and presence could never be replaced.

The love we shared with him will continue to live through the family he cherished and the memories we hold close."Marcus was previously married to Jessie Smith, and from that union were born four children: Jelisha Smith-Britten, Markeshia Smith-Britten, Marcus Smith, and Dazzmund Britten.He was a devoted grandfather to Jermaine Williams Jr., Jermaisha Williams, Anton Williams Jr., Amarreon Williams, Marcus Smith, Jamarcus Smith, Jaslyn Smith, Zariah Smith, Mauri Smith, Markell Smith, Marleigh Smith, Iymoni Upshaw, and Dazzmund Britten Jr.He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Samir and a cherished great-granddaughter.His family was his heart, and his love for them was unwavering.Marcus leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Kavotus Britten, Sharon Godfrey, and Katherine West; one brother, Leon Davis; his best friend and brother at heart, Tyrone Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Preceded in DeathMarcus was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis Jean Britten-Fears and Leon Godfrey; his bonus father, George Fears; and his sister, Yolanda Britten.AcknowledgementMarcus was cremated, and the family will honor his memory through a Celebration of Life, reflecting on the love, laughter, and memories he shared with those who were blessed to know him.While we grieve his earthly departure, we rejoice in knowing that his soul rests in God’s eternal care.The family sincerely appreciates the love, prayers, and support extended during this time.
