(Mckinney) Yates
July 3, 1929 – August 15, 2024
Mrs. Lue Bertha Yates was born to the late Ned McKinney, Sr. and Sallie Bradford-McKinney of Goodwater, Alabama on July 3, 1929.
She accepted Christ at an early age at the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Goodwater, Alabama. Mrs. Yates is the mother to fourteen children.
In 1973 she moved her family to Cincinnati Ohio and joined Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, and throughout the years Mrs. Yates was a faithful and active church member. Mrs. Yates enjoyed singing, gardening, fishing and spending time with her loved ones. She was passionate about community outreach and served as an active member of her community Neighborhood Watch Program. Mrs. Yates was a Member of the Eastern Star Payne Progress Chapter #40, she was a committed Election Poll Worker, she sang with the Charles Fold Singers who won a grammy award in 1981. Mrs. Yates worked with the Department of Developmental Disability for 32 years. In addition to raising her own 10 children she was a Foster Mother to eight children throughout the years.
She leaves behind a legacy that is filled with fond memories, her undying love, strength, courage, and family commitment that will get past down from generation to generation.
She departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Mercy Fairfield Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Hezikiah Yates in 2014, and she was preceded into eternal life by five offsprings: John Louis, James Louis, Marilyn, Cynthia and Calvin Louis "Sonny" Jackson.
Mrs. Yates was also preceded into eternity by ten siblings: Cleveland McKinney, Calvin McKinney, Inez McKinney, Izola McKinney, Lue Anna McKinney, Tony Crew McKinney, John Will McKinney, Mae Ellen McKinney-Jones, Annie Madge McKinney-Marbury and Ned McKinney, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory nine children: Bessie Bush of Columbus, Ohio; Mae Doris Wallace (Charles); Dean Jackson Cook; Vinnie Wilson-Tolbert (Philip) all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Walker Wilson (Gail) of Long Beach, California; Becky Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Gay Wilson, all of Cincinnati, Ohio and Steve Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama; 19 Grand Children, 31 Great Grand Children, 6 Great Great Grand Children, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
The contribution of the cornerstone established by Mrs. Yates and those family members who have preceded her into eternal life are immeasurable...
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, 7717 Harrison Avenue, Mt. Healthy (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
Interment will follow at Landmark Memorial Gardens, 1600 Glendale Milford Road , Cincinnati, Ohio 45215.
