Lucille Ragland passed away June 8, 2013. Today we celebrate the life of Lucille Curry Ragland, born to the late Eddie and Mary Curry on May 24, 1935 in Lincoln, Alabama. Lucille was the oldest of seven chidren. At an early age she joined Sycamore Baptist Church in Talledega, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Talledega Training School. Lucille married her high school sweetheart, Alphonso Ragland, December 12, 1953. To this union two sons were born, James Alvin and Jimmie Lee. Lucille and Alphonso moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1960. Shortly after the Ragland family joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. M. Stevenson. Lucille was a faithful and dedicated member of the nurse's guild until her health started failing. Lucille worked as a domestic engineer until her health failed in 2007. Lucille loved her family and friends. She was very family oriented. She loved to sew, travel, play games and bake. her specialties were sweet potato pie and lemon meringue cake. Lucille was a very friendly and loving person. She was a woman of strength and determination. Lucille was preceded in death by her soul mate-loving husband, Alphonso; son, James Alvin; brothers, David and Willie Curry; sisters, Louise Curry and Doris Ragland. She leaves to cherish her memories: loving and devoted son, Jimmie Lee Ragland; loving and devoted granddaughter, Jimmaei Ragland; sister, Sarah (Albert) Brown of Birmingham, AL; brother, Eddie B. (Shirley) Curry of Lincoln, AL; dear sister-in-law, Mildred Tuck of Cincinnati, OH, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2013, at GREATER NEW HOPE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3655 Harvey Street, Cincinnati (45229) and visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until hour of service.
