Obituary

LUCILLE CHENAULT was President of the Senior Citizens Task, Force, a planning committee for the Cincinnati Model Cities Program. When she became ill and was confined to a nursing home. During her stay many of the residents expressed to her that they were lonely. Some had relatives who never came to visit them while some, like Mrs. Chenault, did not have any living relatives. Lucille Chenault made a promise to the people in the nursing home, saying, "When I get out of here, I am going to do something so that all the lonely and forgotten people will come together one day out of the year in one place, get dressed up, socialize, dance and interact with each other". Her dream became a reality in 1974, along with help from her friends – Majority Leader, William L. Mallory, James Covington, George Brown, Hubert Guest, and Doris Brown. Majority Leader, William L. Mallory was the major force in helping her dream to materialize. Even though Mrs. Chenault had many physical ailments, she managed to gather strength and courage to attend every ball until her death on April 2, 1989. For 39 years the Lucille Chenult Ball has brought joy to many senior citizens in the Cincinnati area. The event is something they look forward to each year. It's a great time for folks to connect with old and new friends, get dressed up and have a fantastic time. The Progressive Senior Citizens Club is able to put on this wonderful event every year thank to generous donations.
