Obituary

"Grand Dad" passed away on February 23, 2017 and is survived by 5 children, and 6 grandchildren. Known by family and close friends as "Eddie" or "Lou", he is survived by Louis E. Owsley, Jr, Deborah L. Owsley, (both of Cincinnati, Ohio,) Patricia D, Owsley, Duarte and Brad Duarte (Boston, MA), Peter A Owsley and Cathy Vitt Owsley (Fort Thomas, KY), Ranee Owsley-Salhab and Nabeel "Bill" Salhab (Tampa, FL), : Grandchildren: Keira and Evan Duarte (New York, NY), Edward "Eddie" Owsley-Longino (Cincinnati), Alex and Kristin Hopewell Owsley, Eric Owsley ( Fort Thomas, KY) and Leeyana Owsley-Salhab (Tampa, FL). Eddie was born in Cincinnati (Madisonville) to the late Velma Bullock and George Bell Owsley. Raised by his mother and step-father, the late John W. Mitchell, he entered he Air Force after high school and served in the Korean War stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Dad embraced the culture and learned to speak Japanese with impressive fluency. After military he returned to Cincinnati, and enrolled at Xavier University where he earned a BA degree in 1957. Years later he earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. In 1954 he married the late Ruth Elizabeth Hull, mother of his 4 eldest children-Patricia, Louis, Peter, and Deborah. In the early 1980's, Lou was married briefly to Melanie Jackson who remains a dear family friend. In 1992, after moving to Montego Bay, Jamaica, Lou met and married Veronica Fletcher and adopted her 4 year old daughter Ranee. They returned to the US to make their home in Xenia, Ohio. Lou taught in the Cincinnati Public School system for many years and later at Cincinnati Technical College (CTC), now Cincinnati State College. While at CTC he joined the Administration as Director of Veteran Affairs and was later appointed to Dean of the Business School until his retirement. Lou was an avid tennis layer - a passion he enjoyed his entire life. He was a long term member of the Walnut Hills/Colonial Racquet/Queen City Racquet Club where he played doubles n a weekly basis until November 2016. Dad was handsome, smart, athletic and unconventional. He was a devoted father who loved his children and grandchildren deeply and unconditionally. He will be greatly missed.
