Louis Edward Cody, Jr. was born on February 20, 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Louis Edward Cody, Sr. and Lucille Cody. He departed this life on September 7, 2026.

Louis attended Hughes High School, later worked as a stonemason alongside his father and brothers, and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.

Most people knew Louis simply as “Jr.” or “Lou.” A few of his cousins, however, knew him by a childhood nickname—“Dookie.” Whether he considered it a term of endearment is another story, but like most family nicknames, it managed to stick around anyway.

Louis had a strong personality, a soft heart, and a deep love for family. He also loved his music. On Fridays, when he was getting ready to head out, Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” was often playing. He played that record so much that the word “delivered” eventually started scratching. By then, the message had definitely been received.

Louis was also known for having quite the vocabulary—and not necessarily the kind you learned in English class. He had a colorful way with words and more than a few favorite expressions that are probably best left out of print. If you knew Louis, you knew exactly what we mean.

Beneath his strong exterior was a man who loved deeply and loved being loved in return. The laughter, music, conversations, and time spent with family will remain part of the memories cherished by those who knew him best.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edward Cody, Sr. and Lucille Cody; his brothers, Anthony Cody, DeWayne Cody, Sr., and Marcus Cody; and his sister, Vergie Bracey.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Louis Edward Cody, IV and Jeanette Cody; his grandchildren; his sisters, Christine Moore and Denice Clark; his aunts, Ada Bowden, Doretha (Eddie) Thurman, and Mary Ward-Thomas; his uncles, Charles Crenshaw and Robert Chiles; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Louis will be remembered for his strong presence, his love of family, his music, his humor, and the colorful phrases that made him unmistakably Louis.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.
