Obituary

Lishis Whitehead, Jr., was born on June 18, 1934 to the late Eunice and Lishis Whitehead Sr., in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his dear sister Claudia Martin and son Lawrence B. Turnbow. Lishis (Lish) was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System. In 1950, he joined the United States Armed Forces where he served in the Korean War. Following his service in the military, he gained employment at General Hospital working as Maintenance Technician until he retired in 1989. On August 23, 1968, he married Leaser Bethly Turnbow. On June 15, 1975 Lish proudly joined the Golden Leaf Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. Carl P. Adkins. He became the Church Treasurer and a member of the Trustee Board in 1978. Then in July of 1979 he was ordained as a deacon. In 1983, he was appointed Chairman of the Deacon Board. In his service to the Lord at Golden Leaf he was a member of several auxiliaries. He was member of the Joint Board, the Property Care Committee, a New Member instructor and teacher. Most importantly, Lish loved to share with his church family on numerous occasions the blessed lessons and testimonies on giving. Lish loved his family and spending time with them. To the Whitehead family he was affectionately known as "Junior or Uncle Junior." He loved baseball, traveling and looked forward to going on vacations with family and friends. He also enjoyed "Family Game Night." He had a quiet spirit and was willing to help anyone in their time of need. Through the trials and tribulations of illness Lish was blessed to overcome time and time again. However, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 the Lord called him from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 45 years, Leaser Whitehead, brothers Curtis (Yvonne) Whitehead, Dennis (Lula) Whitehead, daughters Audrey Duncan, Pamela (Michael) Anderson, sons Darryl (Simone) Whitehead and Kenneth Turnbow, thirteen grandchildren, LaShandra Duncan, Darryl Whitehead II, Lisa Turnbow of Moreno Valley, California; Takita (Jimmy) Clemmons of Douglass, Georgia; Lisa L. Turnbow, Quinn Bass, Gary Lackey, Kellee (Christopher) Woodford, Kamille Turnbow, Korrine Turnbow, Marseil (Carmen) Riddle, Melissa (Jason) Bailey, Michael P. Anderson, sisters- in-law Janie Sue Harden, Lois (Clifford) Austin, Doris Bethly and Cynthia (Wilson) Norfleet, all of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers- in-law Earl (Sadie) Bethly of Montgomery, Alabama and B. Lawrence (Gwen) Bethly of Houston, Texas and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives including a very special and dear nephew Mel Carter. Inspirational Scriptures For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
