Obituary

Lillian Jacqueline "Jackie"  Kirkendall Gengo, 82, of  Logan, West Virginia,  died May 17, 2011, at Logan Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Born December 31, 1928, in Logan, she was a daughter of the late Klon and Billie Cassell Kirkendall. Also preceding her in death was her husband, John Gengo; sister, Barbara Sue Carper; brother, Charles Richard Kirkendall; nephew, James Klon Kirkendall; niece, Carol Beth Carper; great-niece, Erica Danielle Carper, and a very special friend and co-worker at Cottage Flower Shop, the late Belle Meadows. Jackie was a life-long resident of Logan County. She was the owner/operator of Cottage Flower Shop in Logan for many years and is credited with bringing the concept of the "Smiley Face" chrysanthemum to Logan. Jackie was also one of the founders of Evans Funeral Home in Chapmanville, and she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Aracoma #99. Jackie was a life-long member of Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church in Logan, having joined in 1937 and used her glorious voice to praise God as a member of the Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the administrative council and of Circle III of the United Methodist Women. Survivors include her brothers, James C. Kirkendall of Logan, and Ronald C. Kirkendall and William K. (Joann) Kirkendall, both of Wilkinson; sister, Sharon Carol Kirkendall (Bruce) Drenner of Lafollette, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Daniel J. Carper Sr. of Hamlin; sister-in-law, Nancy C. Kirkendall of Wilkinson; nieces, Brenda Kirkendall (Ralph) Fitzgerald of Newark, Del., Cheryl Carper (Jay) Church of Rockford, Ill., Samantha Drenner (Rick) Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., Holly Kirkendall (Dr. James) Long of Chapmanville, and Heather Kirkendall Young of Bruceton Mills; nephews, Daniel James (Karen) Carper Jr. of Logan and William Klon "Chopper" (Debbie) Kirkendall II of Rocky Branch; great-nieces and -nephews, Morgan E. Fitzgerald, Beau Patrick Church, Jordan Beth Carper, Savannah Carol Johnson, Hunter Austin Long, Gage Robert Long, Gabriella Elizabeth Long, Amelia Grace Long, Evan Michael Young, William Kasen Kirkendall, and Myah Elise Kirkendall; great-great-nieces, Hailey Danielle Carper, and Ashley Kirkendall and great-great-nephew, Devin Trent Carper. In addition, among those left to cherish her memory are a host of friends including her very special caregiver, Tina Chambers, and her very special friends who worked with her at the Cottage Flower Shop, Faye McCoy, Pam Hapney, Kim Diamond and the late Belle Meadows. Visitation 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Cole Street, Logan, West Virginia.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Nighbert Memorial United Methodist Church on Cole Street with Rev. Thomas E. Beckette officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
