IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillian C.
(Chambers) Redd
June 16, 1940 – December 19, 2023
Lillian C. Redd June 16, 1940 - December 19, 2023
Life Reflection
Lillian C. Redd (Chambers) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on the 16th day of June in 1940 to Celia Rosetta Braxton and Julius Caesar Chambers. Lillian was peacefully called home to the lord on the 19th day of December, 2023. She is preceded in death by her father, Julius C. Chambers, and mother, Celia B. Love (Braxton); her sisters, Juliet and Linda (Greg), brothers William, Charles, and Julius Jr. "Doty".
She is survived by her daughters Celietta (Kevin), and Orvyna; her grandchildren Tashiana (Eddie), David (Amber), Erin (Carlos), Shamia (Tavare), and Ali (Chelsey); her great-grandchildren Ajani, David Jr. "DJ", Ava, Kyran, Uri, Syon, Noah, and Landon; loving siblings Bobby, Edna (Frank), Janet (Ed), Veronica, and Michael, "Mike"; her oldest living relative, Aunt Patricia White, her Uncle Eugene Braxton, III; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In the dawn of her life in Cincinnati, she enjoyed growing up with her cousins who were more like sister and brothers, Theodore (Ted), James (Jim), and Abraham (Abe). After spending several years with her mom in Tuskegee, Alabama, she would later return home to Cincinnati at the age of 16. She attended Withrow High School her senior year of high school and graduated in 1958. Following graduation, Lillian attended the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to study music and continue her vocal training. After a semester, she returned to Alabama to attend Tuskegee1 University to pursue study for a licensed practical nurse.
Lillian was courageous and ambitious, letting nothing stand in the way of her goals. She was lead singer of the musical group, Delreos and they even performed on the Bob Braun Show. She loved music and could always be found performing a tune on her piano. Her favorite songs to play were "Gee Whiz", "Blue Moon", "Wind Beneath my Wings", "Going Up Yonder", and the "Boogie Woogie". Wherever she would go, whether at the mall or in her own living room, she could not resist the keys on a keyboard or piano. She was always happy to grace us with her angelic voice and amazing piano skills.
Throughout her late teens to her early twenties, Lillian would move from Montgomery, Alabama , to Chicago, Illinois, before settling in Atlanta, Georgia. She independently raised two beautiful daughters, Celietta and Orvyna. It is here where she would begin her career with the federal government working for the Internal Revenue Service. Around 1976, she relocated for a final time, back home to Cincinnati, where she finished out her long, successful career with the IRS, and retiring after 30 years. After retirement, she would follow in her mother's footsteps by working in the field of education. For a few years, she would assist in a classroom with students with special needs at North Avondale Montessori with the Cincinnati Public Schools.
A daddy's girl to her core, Lillian was very resourceful. She never shied away from a challenge. If there was something broken, she was quick to "jimmy rig" it to an unnoticeable level. She was easily spotted throughout the city due to her bright white Pontiac Firebird. She was a proud, southern woman who always had a home remedy recipe in mind for any sickness or ailment that plagued her loved ones. She loved her family deeply. She was very thoughtful, never missing a birthday or special event. In the dusk of her life, never meeting a stranger, she would proudly state that she was "retired" and would gladly share, "I was born in 1940", The epitome of "black don't crack." She always showed up for her family; the backbone and proud matriarch or her little legacy. She always lent an ear and offered her wisdom when needed - "Life is what you make it."
