IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard Gregory
Broach
July 10, 1946 – February 20, 2016
Leonard Gregory Broach, was born July 10, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Leonard was the 2nd youngest of 11 children born to the late Algner E.A. Broach II and Susie B. Broach. He ascended into the arms of the Most High on Saturday, February, 20th 2016. Leonard "Poppy" Broach grew up in Cincinnati's historic West End neighborhood. He spent a great deal of his childhood adventuring through the Lincoln Court housing projects where his family lived. If asked about his childhood he would often laugh and compare it to that of the Little Rascals TV series. His hilarious stories more than supported that claim. He attended Washburn and Hays Elementary School, Porter Jr. High, and later Robert A. Taft High School where he graduated in 1964 and was a member of the Varsity football team. After high school he spent time in Detroit Michigan where he stayed with family and worked for General Motors. In April 1966 he received the call to serve his country and in May was inducted into the United States Army. After completing boot camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky he was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington where he moved up the ranks to become a SP5. He served his country with great honor during the very tumultuous conflict of Vietnam and was honorably discharged in the spring of 1972. After his time in the service Leonard returned to Cincinnati. It was during this time that he accepted Christ into his life, being baptized on November 16, 1975 at the Church of the Living God. Being back home in Cincinnati, he began working for the State of Ohio LCB and also nurturing his god given talent of music. He'd grown up in a very musical family and much like his brothers was a natural drummer. Not only did he produce melodic sounds on the Congas and Bongos, but he was very mechanical and creative and would be tasked to do lighting and special effects for several jazz and R&B groups. In time, he found a love for Reggae music and joined the group, East Wind as their percussionist. During that time he also found a new depth of spirituality….Rastafari, a way of life which is guided by the culture and traditions of Ethiopia. In addition to finding love, peace, and prosperity through music, Leonard also found love in the building trade. While he spent his entire life building things, He spent his later years working as a contractor focusing on weatherization, landscaping, renovations, home maintenance and repairs. There was nothing that he couldn't fix or build and was of great service to many in the Cincinnati community. He worked until his health no longer allowed. Leonard was also a great family man. During his time on earth, he was blessed with a son, Ba'Sunja Leone Broadnax Broach, who preceded him in death, and three daughters, Queens, as he would call them, Pamela, Cassandra, and Gabrielle. His love for them whether near or far was endless and they provided no greater joy to him, than his seven grandchildren. Not only did he love his own 'tribe' but he had a deep affection for his siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. So much so that he would often spearhead and organize family gatherings so that they could be together and never lose sight of their heritage and the great connection that was created by their ancestors. Leonard will be deeply missed. He was a philosopher, a scholar (Grand Master Student), a historian, a musician, a master builder, a brother, a great friend, an uncle, a father, and grandfather. He loved all creation and his legacy will remain and inspire humanity for generations and generations to come. Leonard leaves not to mourn his passing, but cherish his memory: daughters, Pamela Ali of Atlanta Georgia, Cassandra Lenzley of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gabrielle Broadnax of Cincinnati, Ohio; Granddaughters, Brittany Hicks, Sakinah Muhammad, KeAysia Jackson, Kayla Jackson, and Serenity Lenzley; Grandsons, Donaven Lenzley and Keith Jackson Jr.; Great Grandson, Justin McKinney Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Vivian Bobo, one brother, Mr. Melvin Broach, two sister-in-laws Lillie Broach, Jessie Broach and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Fosdick Church of God, 230 Fosdick Street, Cincinnati (45219). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
