Leatha Danille
(Wells) Cooper
August 25, 1952 – February 14, 2026
Leatha D. (nee Wells) Cooper was born on Monday, August 25, 1952 in Prince George County, Virginia, to the late Raymond Wells and Olivia (nee Turney) Wells. She was the second oldest of six siblings. She quietly departed this life on Saturday, February 14, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior.
Having accepted Christ at an early age, Leatha was a faithful member of New Emmanuel Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Earnest Hopper and First Lady Vanessa Hopper. She was a devoted Usher, always willing and available to serve her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Leatha graduated from Withrow High School and attended South Western College of Business. She retired from Quality Woods Supply, Inc.
She held many beloved titles: Sister, Aunt Leatha, Na-Na, Family Matriarch, and friend, to name a few. But her greatest title was Mom, a role she cherished with Clarence (“Peanut”) and Danielle, whom she adored deeply. She was unapologetically their doting and loving Mom.
Leatha was truly an outgoing person; full of laughter and full of life. She loved to go. Once she had her hair colored, with grace and style, she was ready--the casino, gatherings, shopping, playing cards, and going out for a good meal at some of her favorite restaurants, Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster and Longhorn. Another past time was binge-watching her favorite television shows, especially Tyler Perry’s Sistas.
To her nieces and nephews she was their precious Aunt Leatha, a loving constant presence who always showed up to support them. She would greet you with a “Hey Darling”. If they had a need, be it a place to stay, she was always just a phone call away. She had wit and never bit her tongue. She said what she meant and meant what she said. And, while she sometimes had her “choice” words to get you in shape, she would always show correction and discipline with compassion and love. Our hearts are broken and will never be the same as she will be dearly missed.
Preceding her in death were her parents Raymond and Olivia Wells, her husband, Melvin Cooper and her youngest son, Cordell Cooper. Although Cordell’s time here was heartbreakingly brief, he was always fondly remembered and forever loved. Also preceding her were her sisters, WrayJean and Kimberly.
Leatha leaves to cherish her love and precious memories her son, Clarence Wells Sr. (Tammi) and daughter, Leatha Danielle Sanders (Mark). Her grandchildren, Clarence (CJ) Wells Jr., Antonio Johnson, Malajsia, Marcelle, and Marquez (Na-Na’s love bugs); her bonus grandchildren; Bryan (BJ) Nichols, Paris Nichols, Porsche Smith, Raven Smith and Camille Thomas. Also, her sister, Charlene Williams, brothers Raymond Wells (Karen) and Daryle Wells Sr. (Lynn); godson, Kareem Cromer and goddaughter, Dasha Grisby. A dear cousin; Marcia Brown. Her sisterhood circle whom she held close to her heart: Leslie Cromer, Hazel Hite, Ann Fuqua, Carol Cunningham, Vicki Wesley and Doris Best, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends.
