Lazreth (Mckinnes)
Mcginnis
August 12, 1927 – December 16, 2010
In Memory of Lazreth McGinnis (McKinnes) August 12, 1927 - December 16, 2010 Visitation: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 Walker Funeral Home, Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45231 Service: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 Walker Funeral Home, Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45231 Interment: Landmark Memorial Gardens Lazreth McKinnes was born August 12, 1927 to the late Oddie Mae Daniels McKinnes and Gus Eatsey in Louisville, Alabama. He was reared from infancy by his grandfather Charlie McKinnes. He was taught to cultivate and harvest the farmland. He lived as a Sharecropper along with his two cousins, Charles McKIinnes and the late Robert McKinnes. They were reared as brothers and grew up as a family while learning to plow, farm, care for livestock. Lazreth accepted Christ at an early age by joining Pea Creek Baptist Church in Lousville, Alabama. He traveled to Cincinnati at an early age with his uncle L. C. McKinnes. He quickly found employment at Armor Plant and Fertalizer (currently U. S. Steel) in St. Bernard, Ohio. He worked as a forklift driver and fertilizer packer for 30 years and took great pride in his job. Lazreth married the late Mildred "Millie" Robbins McKinnes in Cincinnati, Ohio. He fathered five sons and one daughter who loved him very much. Lazreth was quite witty throughout his life and took on many personalities as a sheriff, cowboy, army general, sword warrior, and took pleasure in collecting recyclable items. He joined the Salvation Army Wilson Adult Daycare Center in 1997 – 2000, whee he enjoyed crafts ,parties, and outdoor activities. Lazreth joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in 2000 under the leadership of Pastor Calvin A. Harper, (currently the church is under Pastor Jerome Clay). Lazreth always trusted God as the leader of his life. We reflect on his memories today in admiration as he instilled pride in us as a family. He was a quiet man but a very wise man. As Lazreth's health began to decline, he was admitted to the Drake Center Rehabilitation Hospital in 2002 and later to Drake Center's Skilled Care Unite where he received excellent health care from the Drake Center's outstanding staff. He befriended many associates whom he often referred to as his "extended family" and his Home away from Home". At the Drake Center, Lazreth took great pleasure in painting, playing Bingo, attending baseball games and concerts. He would visit other Daycare Centers and loved watching old western movies and comedy shows. Lazreth leaves to cherish his memory: loving daughter and caregiver, Carolyn Yvonne "Sister" Williams and her husband, Eugene McKinnes; eldest uncle who is ninety-seven, Louis McKinnes,; dear cousin, Charles McKinnes and his wife, Veloris; twenty-two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a host of other family and friends. The McKines family wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Drake Center and the outstanding professional staff for their love, comfort, and caring shown to our beloved Lazreth McGinnis "Quick Draw Cowboy". May God bless each and every one of your for your special gift of love.
