Lawrence Cecil
Stuart
June 23, 1936 – April 23, 2026
Elder Lawrence Cecil Stuart was born on June 23, 1936, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, to the late Evelyn Scott and Booker Stuart. He peacefully departed this life on April 23, 2026 from a stroke.
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings Charlie Stuart, Mary Stuart, and Excie Stuart, Lawrence lived a full and vibrant life marked by faith, family, music, and service.
A talented musician, he mastered the trumpet and guitar. While still in high school, he performed with a traveling band, sharing his gift across the region. On February 14, 1957, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on November 20, 1957.
In March 1961, Lawrence met the love of his life in Cincinnati at the Regal Theater, the beautiful and vivacious Juanita Williams.
They were married on November 18, 1961, and together they built a loving home. Their union was blessed with six children: Melvin (deceased), Orlando, Darnell, Nichelle, Sonia, and Terrell.
Lawrence dedicated 31 years of his life as a railroad man with the B&O and CSX railways. Known for his skill as an excellent handyman around the home, he took great pride in caring for his family and property. He loved to fish and was a master storyteller, always ready with humorous tales from life that brought laughter to everyone around him. Outgoing and warm-hearted, he never met a stranger he did not like. In 1969, Lawrence was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church during a tent effort led by Pastor C.D. Brooks on the corner of 3660 Washington Avenue-the site that became the home of Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church. He served faithfully for many years as an Elder at the Hillsboro SDA, Head Deacon, Communication Director, and Community Service Worker at Shiloh SDA, touching countless lives through his dedication and love for God and people.
To his children, he was a great Dad, known affectionately by the call sign "Chief of the Watch." His guidance, strength, and love shaped their lives in lasting ways.
Elder Lawrence Cecil Stuart will be remembered as a man of faith, integrity, musical talent, and unwavering kindness-a loving husband, devoted father, and faithful servant who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Stuart; his children Orlando, Darnell, Nichelle, Sonia, and Terrell; and a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, relatives, and friends who will cherish his memory.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:21)
