He was the son and baby of Raymond Todd and Mary Lena Harris-Grimes, who both preceded him in death as well as his beloved siblings Carl Denny, Mary Katherine, Elmer (Jake), Dorothy Raymond Grimes. Lawrence (True) departed this life on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at one of his loving and caring children's home, Latina Grimes-Brown, after a long journey with complications from Parkinson's. Lawrence is known to many as True, Truman, Larry, Rickshay, LT, which he answered to all with a cheerful smile while growing up in Owenton around family and friends and learning early on how to be a man and utilize his hands to repair and build and make old things new. Yes, that was Truman. He loved his family, enjoyed cars, family discussions on religion and family values. He graduated from Owenton high school in Owenton, Kentucky in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Marine for a short time and received a medical discharge. Lawrence as well as all his siblings was introduced to the gospel at a very young age by his parents and was baptized at Second Baptist Church of Owenton, Kentucky as he and his siblings attended Sunday school and church regularly which carried him through life as he studied the word and his faith grew stronger and stronger in the Lord with each passing day. He moved to Cincinnati and married Julia Jones….Through that union, he gained a daughter Rhonda and son Rommel along with Latina and Lawrence T. Jr. Then they relocated his parents to Cincinnati and purchased a two family house in Kennedy Heights. The Family joined first Baptist church of Oakley and Lawrence and all were involved in the church choir, usher board, male chorus, school and church functions. Many fond treasured memories reside on Iris Avenue Family was always most important to Lawrence and being able to work with his father and learn very valuable life changing lessons that were instilled in all the people who grew up under his direction and patience. Him and his late wife Julia were accomplished bowlers and were involved in major tournaments and appeared on the television show bowling for dollars. At times, you would find the whole family at the bowling lanes as well as God's house were they all prayed and stayed together as one. Lawrence was definitely one of the best husbands, fathers, and grandfather family members friends and mentors you ever seen. Lawrence was truly a mastermind, and he utilized all his mechanical skills which landed him a wonderful position at the IRS where he was a computer engineer and he was the president of several internal affiliations such as NTEU for over 30 years until he retired. ……. He enjoyed his work and his coworkers and he was very instrumental in keeping the IRS computers functioning in A 1 condition. He remarried Mary Sanders and gained two children Matthew and Michelle along with their sons Raymond Todd and Lance Grimes. Lawrence and Mary shared many cherished memories and love through their union.
