Gerald Lawrence “Larry” Burgess passed away peacefully at Atrium Medical Center on October 6, 2026 after a lengthy illness.  Larry was born on February 1, 1942 in Zanesville, Ohio to Leo & Hope (nee Allen) Burgess.Larry attended Zanesville Rosecrans High School and after graduation joined the US Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Boxer.

After completing his service in the Navy, he began employment at Armco Steel Works in Zanesville, Ohio and later transferred to the Middletown, Ohio plant where he worked a total of 31 years and retired from there in 1998.

Larry is survived by his wife, Patsy Burgess, of 31 years. His children, Jason Burgess, Jennifer Chapplear, and Steffanie Burgess. Step-daughters, Lisa (Joe) Whiles, and Julie (Tim) Puthoff. Grandchildren, Tyler Graves, Tayler Taylor, Blaine Burgess, Brandon Rush, DJ (Hannah) Whiles, Cammie Whiles & Dalton Cencebaugh, Ryan Puthoff and great grandchildren Layla Schroer, Delilah Cencebaugh, Crew Whiles and Dallis Cencebaugh.A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, Ohio.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or The National Kidney Foundation.
