Laurena Lovette
Davis
October 31, 1938 – January 28, 2015
Elder Laurena Lovette Davis was born on October 31, 1938 to the late Rev. Frank D. and Sarah L. Gilmore in Browns, Alabama. She accepted Christ at the age of eleven and joined the St. Chapter Baptist Church in Browns, Alabama. In September 1952 the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Laurena attended the Old Woodward High School. In May 1979 she married the late Jessie Davis Sr. and remained married for 20 years. Laurena joined St. Anthony Spiritual Church of Christ in 1964 under the leadership of the late Bishop Ida Reeves and served faithfully for 23 years, She also was the founder and pastor of St. Anthony #2 Spiritual Church of Christ for 6 years. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in the Environmental Services Dept. for 20 years. After retiring from there she worked part time at Mercy Professions for 6 years and Mercy Connections for 8 years until her health began to fail. Laurena was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers: Frankie, Sammie, Aaron, Franklin Gilmore and Edward Bettis; one sister, Inell Acoff, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. Elder Laurena Davis joined God's Willing Workers Outreach Ministries in April 2000 under the leadership of Pastor Katie Smith where she was a faithful, dedicated pillar of strength and a hard working servant until the end. She served as assistant pastor for 4 years and was the church secretary and a faithful choir member until the end. She loved the Lord and the word of God with all her heart. Some of her favorite scriptures were Psalms 23, 27 and 121. Some of her favorite songs were 'Only Believe', 'Won't It Be Grand', 'God Gave Me A Mind To Keep On Running' and 'Precious Lord'. Her favorite saying were 'that she had to trust God no matter what' and ' that she was saved, sanctified, fire baptized and waiting on the soon coming King.' She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her spiritual daughter, Pastor Katie Smith; spiritual granddaughter, Katie Smith, whom she nicknamed 'Baby Katie'; 3 sisters, Thelma Cain and Regina Wheeler, both of Cincinnati and Eula Stephens of San Diego, CA; spiritual sister, Willa Blevins of Dayton, Ohio; adoptive sister, Louise Jones of Cincinnati, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and devoted friends. She also leaves one very devoted and special friend, Elder Raymond Smith. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:30 am on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Walker - Walnut Hills Chapel , 1025 E. McMillan Street, Cincinnati (45206) with visitation from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Interment at Vine Street Hill Cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, 1025 E.
