IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laura Ann
Collins
December 27, 1935 – May 15, 2017
Laura Ann Collins was born in Aberdeen Mississippi on December 28, 1935 to the late Reverend Grover Cleveland and Clara Maebell Irons. She departed this life Monday May 15, 2017. Laura was raised in Aberdeen along with seven siblings. She accepted Christ at an early age and lived her life in close relationship with the Lord walking steadfast in his Word. Out of love for family, when she was a young lady, Laura raised four 'special' children Lois, Swift, Earlene, and Gerlene. Laura met Roosevelt Collins Sr in Aberdeen, they wed and moved to Chicago. From their union they were blessed with six children. Laura was a devoted mother and would do anything for her children. Affectionately known as 'Baby Sister' or 'Ma' by all, everyone was family to Laura. In the early 1970's Laura relocated her family to Cincinnati Ohio. One of her first priorities was to find a church home and she became a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Towards the sunset of her life, her health hindered her from attending services but she was there in spirit. You could often find Ma singing a church hymn or thanks to her Sunshine (Vashti) singing her own hymns on Facebook. Laura remained a faithful member at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church until her death; her presence will be greatly missed. The greatest treasure in her life was her family. She took great pride in her children and enjoyed spending time with them, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She held special relationships with each of them; they all had their special time with Ma. As a young woman Laura was an avid bowler and was a member of several teams. Laura worked at Jewish Hospital as a Supervisor in Housekeeping; she retired from this role after many years of dedicated service. Laura was preceded in death by her sons Traveler Collins and Terry Collins and six siblings David, Ruben, James, Pearl, Georgia and Vashti. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Rosie 'Prince' Williams (Edward), Roosevelt 'Curly' Collins Jr, Grover 'Jack' Collins (Stephanie), Nicole 'Nikki' Hudson (Ray Shawn); a special daughter Gwendolyn 'Baby Girl' Collins; one brother Curtis Irons; three loving nieces Lois, Earlene, Gerlene; one nephew Swift; seven grand children, Stephon, Laura Anne (James), Rosie, Roosevelt (Mykala), Kaywonn, Jacoby, Ray Shawn, Jahari, and Vashti; 9 great grandchildren Stephon, Dupree, Ricky, Jonathan, Prince James, Kaywonn, Leaunna, Georgia, and Summiya. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church , 3021 Mathers Street, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery.
