IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katie
Parker
November 28, 1923 – January 10, 2016
Katie Parker, 92, of Cincinnati, transitioned Sunday evening, January 10, 2016. Katie Parker was born in Louisville, Mississippi to Simon and Susie Jackson on November 28, 1923. After Katie reached adulthood, she traveled to Cincinnati to join her extended family. During her early years in Cincinnati, she met and married Mr. S.T. Jenkins, and to this union, they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Patricia, better known to all as "Patti." Years after becoming a widow, Katie was united in holy matrimony with her late husband, affectionately referred to as, "Mr. Parker." After becoming widowed for a second time, she began to focus her energies and talents on working in the community. She worked in the dietary department of the University of Cincinnati, from which she would eventually retire after 30+ plus years of service. Additionally, she shared her love for music as a member of choirs and musical groups. She sang with the Ohio Unity Choir and the Peace and Serenity Choral group for over 30 years combined, all while participating in community events, prayer and bible studies, visiting the sick and shut-in, and pouring herself into countless additional activities which lead her to much fame and recognition. Katie's love for her God and people lead her to many opportunities to foster positive changes throughout the Gateway region. While working tirelessly, yet energetically within her local church, Evergreen Baptist, and with other para-church organizations throughout the city, the Cincinnati Recreation Center inducted her into their Hall of Fame, as the Hamilton County Senior Citizen of the year ----twice. Even after achieving such noteworthy recognition and accolades, she never rested on her laurels, but she continued to affect the world around her for positive and beneficial change. Katie had an unrelenting drive and energy to empower individuals to better themselves through self-development and physical fitness. Regularly, Katie would teach aerobics classes to her fellow senior citizens twice daily for four days a week at various athletic and senior centers around Cincinnati. She would greet each participant with a hearty "Howdy!", and each person would respond in kind. In addition to her daily exercise regime, since late 1980's, Katie would participate every year in the Findlay Market Reds Opening Day parade by walking alongside various floats, marching bands, and mayors for over 19 city blocks towards the stadium. Katie's energy was fueled by excellent health and wellness which she cultivated daily. Her notable claim was the following: "I have no aches or pains, no where. I don't take any kind of medication or nothing. I'm just blessed." And Katie did just that----blessed everyone that she met with her infectious smile and personality. Katie is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Simon Maurice Jackson and Mrs. Susie Jackson; her brother, Ezell Jackson, Sr.; and her daughter, Patricia Jenkins. Katie is survived by her brother, Bishop Maurice (Thyra) Jackson; sisters, Mary Jackson Carman and Faith Jackson; her nieces, Christine (Will) Wade-Curry of Atlanta, Georgia, and Laura A. (Carlos) Rodgers of Dayton, Ohio; her nephews, Maurice Jackson, Jr., Martin P. Jackson of Louisville, Ky., Tramell A. Jackson, Christopher S. Jackson, Daylen P. Jackson, Jackson R. Carman, Victor K. Carman; and her step-mother, Laura R. Jackson; along with a host of grand nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives, along with her friends; special appreciation and recognition to Henderson Ross and Tracey Collins for their loyalty and unfailing love for our beloved sister, Katie.
