Kathryn E'Schelle Whitenhead, also called “Shelly”, was born on July 8, 1968, to the union of Frank and Bonnie Whitehead, both of whom preceded her in death.

Shelly graduated from Hughes High School in 1986. Her bubbly and outgoing personality led her to excel in many things, including her long career in the medical field.

Shelly really loved and adored her family and friends. She played a significant role in the upbringing of generations after her.

Shelly really adored her aunts and uncles, Beverly Taylor, Carla Thomas, and Derek Taylor, who preceded her in death, and her nephew DJ, who also preceded her in death.

Shelly leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Tommanique’ and Tiana Whitehead (Jo’El, Sr.); and son, Santais. She loved and enjoyed life and was a devoted grandmother who cherished her grandchildren, Bonnie, Brooke, Bre’Ann, Jo’El, Jr., Jo’Ez, and Blaire.

She also leaves behind a loving uncle, Ceon Taylor; special uncle Samuel Thomas; adopted sister, Andrea; a host of very close nieces and nephews and cousins with whom she grew up with like siblings; other family members; and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Mt. Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Avenue , Mt. Healthy (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
