Kathryn Ann Smith , age 70, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born Wednesday, July 28, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Green Hills, 11195 Winton Road Cincinnati (45218) with visitation from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Share special messages with the Smith family at www.HerbWalker.com. Kathryn Ann Smith, nee Jones, was born on July 28, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Columbus and Frizzette Jones. "Kathy", as she was also known as, was the only child and was extremely close to her mother. At 5:45 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014, she closed her eyes and went home to be with her Lord. Kathy accepted Christ at an early age at First Antioch Baptist Church, when it was located on 9th Street in downtown Cincinnati. She served as church secretary for many years. She was a very active member for over 50 years and, even after she became ill. She started visiting First Baptist Greenhills with her family in the summer of 2013, where she made a lot of loving and caring friends. Kathryn graduated from Walnut Hills High School and then attended the University of Cincinnati. On July 28, 1943, she married the love of her life, Charles. Kathryn started working at the Internal Revenue Service at the Federal Building in Cincinnati, then over to the Covington, Kentucky location. She later resigned from the IRS so that she could raise her children and take care of her ailing mother. During this time, she helped support her family by being a seamstress. Many prominent Cincinnatians chose Kathy as "their" seamstress. She especially liked Vogue patterns and created her own style. Many brides walked down the aisle in Kathy's creation. Anything that could be sewn, Kathy made it. Her husband was especially proud of the suits that she made for him. She also enjoyed cooking, canning and baking for her family and friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Frizzette Jones. Kathy leaves to cherish in her memory, her husband Charles of 49 years; her dedicated daughter, Krystal Smith; daughter Melissa; sons, Senior Chief Philip T. Smith, Jr. (April) United States Navy and Chief Charles A. Smith, Jr. (Jackey) United States Navy; six grandchildren, Philip, Thomas, Jerry, Kristofer, Kameron and Kalleigh. She also leaves to cherish a very special cousin, Shirley Todd and a host of family and friends.
