IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen A.
(Leiper) Faux
December 6, 1925 – January 24, 2022
Kathleen (Kay) Leiper Faux (96) passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 26th 2022 in Cincinnati, OH. She is survived by four children, Cynthia Bevan (Bob Bevan) of Wilmington, OH, Patricia Faux (Christopher Goettge) of Annapolis, MD, Priscilla Faux and Caleb Faux (Kay Sterling) of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Kathleen was born and raised in the small town of Blauvelt NY, near NYC. She graduated from Oberlin College, and then enrolled at the Hartford Divinity School in Hartford Connecticut. While there, she met and married her husband Richard Faux, who preceded her in passing, in 2009. Kathleen was a close partner in his endeavors as a pastor among the Society of Friends (Quakers), living in Noblesville IN, then Farmington NY, and eventually Cincinnati, OH where they spent the majority of their married life. They were among the founding members of the Eastern Hills Meeting in Cincinnati, and were active in the Dover, Waynesville and Springfield Meetings. During her life Kathleen pursued her interest in religious education and social justice. She gave time to the Hamilton Co. Mental Health Board, as a Volunteer Chaplain in area Emergency Rooms, as a leader of Magic Circles in inner city schools, a driver for Meals-on-Wheels, and Easy Riders (assisting people to medical appointments), a member of the Musica Sacra Choral Group and a Sunday School teacher to a generation of children. Kathleen was always curious about the world around her and was a dedicated reader with a particular interest in history. She was known throughout her life to be a very intelligent, empathic person who always cared more about others than she did for herself. Toward the end of her life her constant refrain was "I want to be useful", and at her assisted living facility (Llanfair in Cincinnati) she would weed the flower garden on her walker, even at the risk of serious personal injury. She was an avid life-long gardener. Throughout life Kathleen chose to see the world and the people in it in a positive light, in keeping with her Christian faith which sustained her, lifelong. She could never be described as "naive" in any sense of that word. Kathleen simply chose to see the world optimistically. She believed in the possibility of a world where justice and dignity are available to everyone. She was a wonderful mother to her four children, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate her life at the Eastern Hills Friends meeting in Cincinnati OH on Saturday, March 19th at 11:00 am, 1671 Nagel Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45255. Attendees will be asked to wear face masks and social distance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Church World Service https://cwsglobal.org/donate/ PO Box968, Elkhart, IN 46515-9962; 800-297-1516
