Obituary

Loving. God-fearing. Caring. Generous. Beautiful. All words that describe the late and great Joyce Jean Walker. But even those words hardly capture the woman she truly was.

Joyce Walker did not just leave behind memories, but she left behind a legacy of love, strength, and wisdom that will last a lifetime.

On March 2, 2026, our family said goodbye to our matriarch, our glue, the woman who held us together and meant everything to us.

Born on July 6, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joyce Jean Walker built a life rooted in faith. Known for her legendary two-step, she definitely knew how to get down. Joyce knew every line dance, and that’s truly not an exaggeration. Very rarely would you see her sitting still anywhere, unless she was watching her “soaps.” And even then, she was usually still up, moving around, helping someone.

Joyce was known for always being there, no matter how big or small the issue was. If you knew Joyce, then you knew a woman of faith. Now she wasn’t tech-savvy at all, but that never stopped her from making sure people knew the Word. She would faithfully

write out Bible verses and send them to her family and even her family’s friends, just to make sure they knew God.

She was never a worrisome woman, always trusting that God would see her through. And the lady could talk! And once you got her started, she wouldn’t stop. But in those conversations, there were always laughs, love, and lessons. She had a beautiful spirit to

match her beautiful appearance: long red nails, soft hair, a bright smile, and ears that were always ready to listen.

Joyce loved her family deeply and lived her life full of faith and devotion to God. Joyce leaves behind her children, Antonia Gilyard (Kenneth), Darlene McWhorter (Charles), Anthony Walker Jr. (Catherine), Orlandia Lynn, DeAnna Pickett (John), along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones who will continue to cherish her memory.

She is reunited in eternal rest with her husband, Anthony Walker Sr., her parents, Bernice and Ray Isham, her siblings, Betty Isham, Ramona Isham, Raymond Isham, Caroline Brown, Donald Brown, and Richard Hayes, and her granddaughter Courtney Gilyard.

Like one of her favorite artists once said, “That woman is a wonder.” And Joyce Jean Walker truly was. Beautiful inside and out, she carried herself with grace, strength, and unwavering faith. A woman who accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and lived her life trusting that God would see her through.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that the same faith she lived by has now welcomed her home. Her love, her wisdom, her laughter, and the lessons she shared will live on through every life she touched.

Joyce Jean Walker will forever be loved, forever be remembered, and forever be missed.
