Dr. Joseph L. Giunta, a prominent plastic and reconstructive surgeon, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 in Strasburg, Virginia.

He was born December 1, 1937 in Olean, New York; the son of Dr. Raymond Giunta and Mary Virginia Bordenaro Giunta. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964-1973. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, Fellow American College of Surgeons and was an Alumni of Georgetown Medical School.

He married Carolyn Howard on January 1, 1998 in Manassas, Virginia. Along with his wife of Winchester, VA, he is survived by one son, Anthony Giunta of Williamsville, NY; two daughters, Virginia Gibson of Lakewood, Ohio, Ann Marie Giunta of Manhattan, New York; a step daughter, Theresa Guinn of Winchester, Virginia; two brothers, Dr. Stephen Giunta of Falls Church, Virginia and Xavier Giunta of Olean, New York; and two grandchildren, Andrew Gibson and Mary Virginia Gibson.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Stanley J. Krempa officiating. A Rosary Service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m.
