Johnnie Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away in Christ on April 02, 2014 at the age of 84. Johnnie was born in Evergreen, Alabama to Abe McCary and Annie C. Harris (Darden) on February 7, 1930. With only a 3rd grade education Johnnie dropped out of school to find employment in order to support the family. Johnnie left Alabama at age 15 for employment in Tallahassee, Florida. After a few years working, he met and fell in love with Mabel Boyd and they got married in 1948. That union was blessed with 7 children. Due to lack of employment, Johnnie moved his family (a wife and 2 Children) to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1952. Johnnie was able to find employment at a meat packing company where he developed a talent and became a skillful butcher. After 10 years living in Cincinnati, his family size increased from 2 to 7 children. Johnnie worked at several different meat packing companies over the course of 30 years until his retirement. Johnnie retired from Klueder Meat Packing Company in 1994. In 2007 after 59 years of marriage, Johnnie and Mabel divorced. Johnnie was preceded in death by his sisters - Burida Shine, Barbara Odurn, Eria Mae Harris; brothers - Ester Harris, Henry Darden, Willie George Darden, and his 2 daughters - Greta Harris and Carolyn Boyd Gibson. Johnnie is survived by ex-wife Mabel Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; sons - Johnnie Harris Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; Melvin Harris, Kenneth Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; Dylan Harris of Dallas, Texas and daughter - Sandra (Harris) Chabvepi-Orech and husband WilsonOrech of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; sisters - Lois Mallory of Cincinnati, Ohio; Pauline Salter of Johnstown, Pennsylvanian; Carolyn Lovings and brother-Carvin Darden of Pensacola, Florida;sister-in- law Mary Harris and brother-in-law Andrew Lovings. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Anita Harris of Memphis, Tennessee; Trinette Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; Ronald Harris and Ryan Harris of Jacksonville, Florida; Simbarashe Chabvepi of Manhattan, New York City, Trynette Harris of Phoenix, Arizona; Crystal Gibson of Durango, Colorado; Jaimini Woodson of Pahoa, Hawaii not to mention 9 great-grandchildren plus 3 great - great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel , 1025 E. McMillan Street, Cincinnati (45206) with visitation from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Final arrangements entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, 1025 E. McMillan Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.
