Obituary

Johnny L. Darby Obituary Johnny Lewis Darby known to many as "John", was born November, 28, 1945 to the blessed late parents Houston and Janie Darby in Birmingham. Alabama. He was called to meet the heavenly Father and those who went before him on February, 13, 2015. Johnny was baptized at an early age at the Lily Hill Baptist Church by the late pastor James Cooper in Verbena, Alabama. From early childhood his parents instilled the values of reverencing and loving God. He was formally educated through the Holy Ghost Mission Catholic School and Chilton City Training High School in Clanton, Alabama. It was through his training at Chilton where he discovered his love and fascination for the automotive trade. On January, 7, 1969 Johnny, alongside Rosa Darby, was blessed to birth a son, Alonzo Darby. John was always proud of his son. He would reference him as "my boy", signifying how terrific and loving of a son he had. Johnny built his career around the automotive industry. He worked for Chrysler during the late 70's, Laidlaw bus services during the early 80's and then ventured into owning his own automotive shop named 'Johnny's Auto Service' in Stamford, Connecticut, from 1983 to 2005. Johnny was a superb mechanic and was often called "Dr. John" for the many traditional and untraditional ways he fixed cars. John loved living life to the fullest. He loved listening to artist like the O'Jays, Commodores and Barry White. He would often dress as sharp as they did and when he stepped into the place, everyone knew "Johhny" had arrived. He was friendly to many and loved putting smiles on people's faces. In 2005, John relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio. With blessings from his Pastor, Robert Perry of Union Baptist Church of Stamford, Connecticut, he joined Consolation Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Ellington. Until his time of illness he was a faithful member attending mid-week and Sunday morning services. Johnny was privileged to retire from Ludlow trucking in Cincinnati, Ohio and from his retirement coined the phrase "I's retired now" when anyone told him something to do he didn't want to do. During his retirement, he would attend Twin Tower Adult Stay carrying his Bible every day and then rushing home to often eat his favorite butter pecan ice cream, pork skins, chicken fried rice or even pancakes and bacon. Among all things Johnny "John" Louis Darby was a dreamer and tried to achieve every dream he could. He leaves to cherish in his memory His son Alonzo (Tammy) Darby, His daughter Andrea (David)Williams, His siblings Houston Darby Jr, the late Lillie Belle Tensley, Bessie (Carl) Ford, Lille (Craig) Edwards, and Callie (Shuller) Pickett. His grandchildren Camryn, Kasandra, Jaydah, Alonzo Jr., Chaz, Jace, Brandon and Jasmine, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Johnny can now really say "I's retired now" for he is resting in the arms of the Lord. The order of service Call to celebration.....
