Johnie Mae Evans went home to meet the Lord at UC Medical Center in Cincinnati surrounded by her family on May 16, 2017. She was born in Linden, Alabama to John W. King, Sr. and Crodia (Witherspoon) King on February 9, 1942, the eldest of seven. She attended Linden Academy High School where she graduated in 1961. She married her high school sweetheart Isiah Evans on June 14, 1963 and had six children. True to her generous spirit, she went on the graduate as an LPN from Good Samaritan Nursing School in Selma, Alabama and became an RN at Raymond Walters College in Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked as a registered nurse for Jewish Hospital and the Health Alliance for over 30 years before retiring from Christ Hospital. Johnie gave her life to Christ at a very early age and was a faithful member of Brooklyn Tabernacle Baptist Church in Myrtlewood, Alabama, Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, and 1st New Highpoint Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout her Christian walk she touched many lives, by her willingness to serve and her ready words of faith and encouragement. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years Pastor Isiah Evans; her children Stephanie Evans, Sandra Douglas, Sheila Flynn, Shauna (Clarence) Hill, Chadwick Evans, Craig Evans; siblings Hiawatha (Calvin) Williams - Rosewood, California, Larwintia (Alvin) Bradshaw - Cincinnati, Ohio, Dorothy Hardwick - Eastpointe, Michigan, Geraldine (John) Gilbert - Cincinnati, Ohio, John (Ethel) King, Jr. - Myrtlewood, Alabama, and Sharon (PJ) Portis - Myrtlewood, Alabama; 2 devoted aunts Ovaria Lewis and Dorothy (Zack) Davis - Birmingham, Alabama; sisters-in law Rachel Pierson and Mattie (Anthony) Horton - Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ester (Norman) Campbell - Birmingham, Alabama; 23 grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Johnie Evans, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, and friend, is now resting in the arms of our Lord in heaven. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Bright Star Community Church, 809 Charlotte Street, Cincinnati (45214). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens , 2145 Compton Road, Mt. Healthy, Ohio 45231.
