Obituary

John Thomas Watkins, affectionally known as Brut and J.T., was born on January 22, 1954, to the late J.T. Watkins and Annie D. (Poole) Watkins in Glenn, GA.

John attended Taft High School and found employment through the City of Cincinnati Water Works Division where he worked for over 30yrs until his retirement. JT was real strong-minded. He was there for his kids and his grandkids. If you knew JT, you knew he would always let you know how he felt, whether it was good or bad. Through it all, he was a good person who will truly be missed. He fought a hard battle and held on as long as he could, but the Almighty called him home.

John accepted Christ at a young age, and joined New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. H.L. Harvey Jr. John was a faithful member, values he strived to instill in his own family. John served on the usher board "God's Door Keepers "until his health began to fail.

John enjoyed life, and spending time with his family. John looked forward to family reunions, family gatherings and a good party. John helped many and was valuable beyond measure. He demonstrated this not just by words, but by his actions.

John departed this life on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at The Care Core Meadows Nursing Home. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters Gloria A. Watkins and Geneva L. Watkins.

John will be lovingly remembered by his longtime companion Gloria Walker; two children Jonathan (Lashawn) Hix and Jessica (Sean) Lackey; five sisters Annie B. Watkins, Carolyn Watkins; Mary Watkins; Princess Watkins, and Daniella Watkins, one brother Charlie (Melinda) Watkins; six grandchildren, Ryan, Maurice, Sierra, Kalope, Miracle, and Erica; two great-grandchildren; all of Cincinnati, Ohio, one aunt Nancy Watkins of Roanoke, AL and one uncle Charlie Daniels of Roanoke, AL.

John is remembered by many extended family members, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
