In Memory of John Thomas Austin, Sr. August 6, 1930 - October 9, 2009 John Thomas Austin was born August 6, 1930, in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Ellis and Ora Austin. Johns family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1935 where John was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System. John was drafted into the United States Army at age 18 and faithfully served his nation as an Army Reservist. John was honorably discharged from military service on February 18, 1961. Before John married Martha Louis Bonner of East St. Louis, Illinois, John birthed his first son, James Hayes. After John had married Martha four more children were born: Tyrone, John Thomas Jr., Jerald Torme, and his only daughter, Jan Terrier Austin. John was a faithful husband and provider for his family working at Dugan Construction Company. Also, John also had a long career in the Cincinnati Public School System and retired at age 64. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to James (Pete) Austin. Daddy and Uncle Pete had a close relationship and spent over forty years side by side as loving brothers. Daddy and Uncle Petes relationship continued until Daddy's passing. John received Christ at an early age joining Inspirational Baptist Church in Cincinnati. John truly loved the Lord, and one of his joys was attending church with his wife, Martha Louise. John enjoyed the comforts of his home, watching old western movies and listening to beautiful love ballads. John enjoyed quiet time however his greatest joy was his family and providing for them. John leaves a bountiful legacy, and he was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two brothers, Ernest and Robert Austin. John leaves to cherish his memory: four sons, James, Tyrone, John, and Jerald Austin, and his one and only daughter, Jan (Terry), three brothers, Leroy of Loraine, Ohio, James and Julius (Mattie) of Cincinnati, and his only sister Bessie (Robert) Nelson, and two sister-in-laws, Buelah and Inez Austin, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
