It is with deep sadness we announced the transition of John Murdell Stephens, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio. He entered eternal rest at his residence on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was 89.
Born August 29, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ella Farro and Rev. John Murdell Stephens, Sr.
John received his secondary education from Woodward High School in 1953.
He confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior in his youth.
John was united in holy matrimony to Vivian Dillard at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in 1955. Born to this union were five children.
John was a devoted christian, loving father, family member, and caring friend.
He held various jobs in his lifetime and retired from Thriftway Grocery as a department manager.
John enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Seventh Street Reunion and Sunday Brunch Club for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd L. Stephens and Willie A. Stephens; nine sisters, Florence Williams, Alice B. Stephens, Edna P. Stephens, Lula K. Lyles, Lucille White, Bertha Felder, Mabel McClure, Stephena Turner, and Esther Knox; one step-sister, Develna Lewis.
John leaves behind to cherish his precious memory one son, John Murdell Stephens III (Linda); four daughters, Sylvia Stephens, Ella Stephens, Eva Miller (Romel Sr.) and Tonya Stephens-Jones; seven grandchildren: Matthew Stephens (Katherine), Latina Stephens, Glenda Buffington, Dominique Jones, Jasmine Jones, Naima Miller, and Romel Miller Jr; five great-grandchildren: Makayla Stephens, Eliza Stephens, Matthias Stephens, Marciano Jones, and Ermias Stanbach; one sister, Mary D. Christian. He leaves a host of other loving relatives and friends.
The family will observe private services.
