IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Wilbur
Spurlock Iii
June 1, 1944 – September 25, 2016
John Wilbur Spurlock, III, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 1, 1944, to the loving union of the late John Wilbur Spurlock, Jr. (June) and Susie E. Spurlock (Sue). John spent his early childhood in Cumminsville, and attended Hughes High School and Central Vocational. He embraced hope in Christ as a young boy at the First Baptist Church of Cumminsville, and he remained a lifetime member. He was employed at General Hospital (now University Hospital) for over thirty-three years. He retired and returned to part-time work. John's love for Christ encouraged him to join the Thomas Dorsey's National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses. He was passionate about the Greater Cincinnati Choral Union, where he was a member for over fifty-one years. He traveled yearly with his traveling companions, Virginia Turner, Garnetta Robinson, and others, looking forward to their yearly time with life-long friends. John ran an astonishing race. Heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and never a complaint. Just a gentle smile on the evening of September 25, 2016, at the age of 72. John received a call from God, informing him of his change of address. He leaves to cherish his memory, two siblings, Fredrick Wilbur Spurlock and Suzette Spurlock-Watts; three nephews, William Davis (Tammy), Shawn Spurlock (Terry) and Janerio (Monique) Spurlock; one niece, Shyla Novak (Richard), ten great-nieces, one great-great nephew and a host of other relatives and friends. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Special thanks to Marilyn King for being John's confidant, aide and travel partner to the end, the UC Cardiac Unit, Davita of Winton Road, Hospice of Cincinnati, Alice Fletcher, Kenneth Green, Ramsey Family, Calvin Meadows, Greg Lynn, Lavonia Clark and Joe Chapman. John will be greatly missed by those who know and loved him and we were blessed to have him in our lives. Acknowledgements Our hearts are saddened over the passing of our loved one. Yet during these times you have lifted many of our burdens for which we are eternally grateful! Your many expressions of sympathy and all acts of kindness shown during our time of bereavement will never be forgotten! Pastor George Sutherland and the members of First Baptist Church of Cumminsville, Deacon Richard and Jimmy White for faithfully serving communion and visiting. From the depth of our hearts 'Thank you each of you'. May God bless and keep you in the palm of his hand.
