He was the third child of eight siblings. Two siblings preceded him in death, Sheppard Ross and James Ross. John accepted Christ at an early age. On January 1, 1978, John joined New Hope Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. John H. Flinn, where he served as a Trustee. In 1999, he served as the church Treasurer of The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Donald E. Jones Sr. Throughout his years at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, John served in Kingdom building in many areas of the church. As a spirit-led man, John walked by faith, not by sight in his role as Treasurer, and a steward of GOD's work . Prayer played a significant role in John's life in building the Kingdom of GOD. He was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System and was employed with the City of Cincinnati, Metropolitan Sewer District for thirty years. He retired as a Supervisor on February 1, 1993. In his early years of life, John enjoyed music. He was a songwriter and created beautiful music with a few musical groups. He had many interests, such as bowling, reading, studying GOD's word, Master Chef of Grilling, spending time with family, gardening and traveling. He met the love of his life, Geneva L. Perkins at Coney Island in Cincinnati, Ohio in the year 1959. They became soulmates and was united in holy matrimony in 1961. To this union, three children were born: Judy Everlee Ross, Darryl Anthony Ross and John Dante Ross. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Geneva L. Ross; one daughter, Judy E. Ross; two sons, Darryl A. Ross (Dana), and John D. Ross (Patricia) all from Cincinnati Ohio: five grandchildren, Cedric Dugger, Amilya Wilson, Jordan Ross, Sean Ross, and Imani Ross and eight great grandchildren; Jade Dugger, Jordan Dugger, Trinitee Dukes, Nyla Wilson, Destiny McKinnon, Treyvon Dukes, Jimmie Holton, and Skylar Dugger; two brothers, Glen Ross (Jackie), and William Ross; three sisters, Barbara Jelks , Donzella Saleem, and Patricia Sims; six sister-in-laws, Creola Hillman, Katie Williams (Thomas), Elizabeth Simon (Frank), Jessie Morgan (Houston), Lurinda Clay and a host of nieces, nephews and friends and a loved spiritual daughter, Cassandra Whittaker. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3655 Harvey Avenue, Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Donald Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
