Obituary

On Saturday, September 17, 2016 John Robert Hodgkin Sr. "Johnny" made a peaceful transition from his earthly body and was called home by God to rest. His life's journey began on March 30, 1954. He is the son of June (Barnett) Hodgkin and the late Marcus Hodgkin, Sr. On April 10, 1955 Johnny was christened at Lee Chapel AME Church witnessed by his godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bomar. Johnny passed away not knowing his day and time had come. He enjoyed life, always had a smile and thought of other's more than himself. He was a fun loving person with a bubbly personality, he never met a stranger. His specialty was making you laugh, that's who he was! He served his country by joining the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge he continued to serve the citizens of Cincinnati for many and retired from the City of Cincinnati Public Services Department. Johnny cherished the relationships he had with his family and loved spending time with them. He had a servant heart and was his mother's favorite caregiver. He actually moved in the same building so he would be close to her. One of his favorite past times was catching up with his long-time friends watching sports, playing guitar and listening to music. Everyone loved it when he would fix his famous wings with fried potatoes and onions. He was preceded in death by his father, Marcus Hodgkin, Sr., his brother, Marcus Hodgkin, Jr. "Skip", and his grandparents John & Amanda Barnett "Daddy T & Gran". He leaves to cherish the memories, his mother, June Hodgkin, daughter, Kendra Phelps (Jimmy), son, John Hodgkin, Jr. (Andrea), and his adopted daughter Yolanda Jackson (Mike). Johnny has six grandchildren Elijah, Paris, Isaiah, Jayden, Jeriah, Na'Imah and one on the way. He also leaves two sisters Margo Woodson and Linda Richard, two brothers Vernon Williams and Kareem Muhammad Sr. a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends who will truly miss his presence. Visitation is from 4:30 pm until 5:30 pm, on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Lee Chapel AME Church, 2009 Pogue Street (45208).
